How To: Change Visual Viewing Style for the Forum

Hey everyone, I wanted to share with you how to change the visual viewing style of the forum to help some of you find a better "view" for the site.

For starters, you can find the visual viewing styles at the VERY bottom of the forum page (scroll all the way down,) and it's typically on the lower left hand corner of the page, or on the bottom middle if you're on your mobile device.

And a quick explanation of the styles:

Default Styles:

- Autoflower Network 2018 Style v3 (this is what translated over from the old version of AFN to the new one. It's not very pretty, but I hear a lot of users are still using it.)

- Blue's Test (this is the default style that AFN uses for all users, it's a light contrast theme built around the AFN color scheme. It has some known visual issues with buttons being too bright and washed out, we've taken note and it's on the list to address.)

- UI.X Dark (this is the default DARK contrast theme, and a number of users have mentioned it's the easiest style on the eyes.)

Newly Enabled Styles:

- UI.X (we enabled this yesterday, it's the parent theme that Blue's Test is built off. It hasn't been configured for graphics/banners yet, but the color and contrast are a bit easier on the eyes.)

- UI.X Material (also built off the UI.X style, this simply puts forum elements in different places (looks crazy on desktop lol.)


If we get a lot of feedback over liking one style versus the next, that's the one we'll emphasize the work on!

I am pleased and impressed by the new layouts.... much fresher and more modern looking in general, so thanks to you and the team for doing this all for us!

I LOVE the trichome-esque logo!

In terms of colour though, I'm not liking the UI.X light or dark modes.... I'm sorry but the blue doesn't do it for me, the green was way nicer, and related more to the herb we love so much. Isn't there some issues for some people with blue colouring? Kinda like colour blindness? Not sure on that one.

Also it would be nice for some piccies on the main page, so everyone can see what's new at a glance.

If the UI.X dark page had green instead of blue, it would be perfect, but I'm liking the 'autoflower network 2018 style 3' most of all, green and black on grey.... nice and easy to read, looks like a canna site.... what's to change?

Lastly, I'm gutted about losing the rep point feature, and also losing all my hard earned badges.... it was major kudos having those up on display!
Even then, this is the greatest site for the greatest gift of nature.... keep at it, and thank you!

Hey there Teetee, we appreciate your kind words!

We're going to look into the color aspect of the themes here; I too am not the biggest fan of the "Windows XP-era" blue headers. I'm trying to get a hold of our staff member that made several of our graphics for us to see if he can offer some "color guidance" on getting it fixed up. Some of the color changes require specific coding (that's probably the biggest hangup why it doesn't just "get changed right now," as that's a bit above my pay grade.

Reputation unfortunately didn't translate over in the new software (it was an add-on feature on the old AFN forum software and the developer didn't choose to update it over to this version.) I know a lot of people liked it; we'll see if there's some other way to implement something like this down the road.

Badges are coming back; in fact they honestly just need to get put into the new system by our staff (we just started looking at them the past few days.)

If you look at my profile above, you can see there's a small circular badge under the website in the profile bar. That's a bit too tiny even for my eyes though; so we're looking into how to properly size them up to be like the old system. But it should function much like the old system, where you have the option as users to select which badges show up (or not.) So it's on the way!
