I got a Worm Farm!

Awesome bro, I've had my worm farm a couple of months now and it's doing great! The worms are breeding too which is perfect. I use mostly tea-bags and greens/veg. I don't use fruit so much as it's quite acidic, the odd scraps of onion do go in there and they seem cool with it. Citrus is a no-no really lol. Looking forward to seeing the pics buddy.

A worm farm if a container you raise worms in to later collect the worm castings to feed your plants. some people also raise the worms to resell. I'm raising them for the castings for my soil grows. Best fertilizer you can use IMO.

I am hoping to get a few restaurant scraps to help generate enough food the start to grow the farm. I work at a restaurant part time but the trick is going to be getting the right food scraps. I also live near many local farms I think I might be able to get some cow or buffalo manure. Any other suggestions for good food sources? Can I feed them my fan leaves and stems?

Squash Peels ...cucumber peels.
Alfala Meals

My little Guys froze i believe the Generator heater crashed and i didnt notice ...the shed Froze pretty good i hope they are tough and survived but my Binss were very cold and.Pretty frosted yesterday

even if the worms didn't make it, the eggs may have. Thaw your bedding and keep it warm, see what recovers.

Here are some pics of mine. Actually, I'm running two now. I put some bad compost in and it started killing them. I quickly removed the suspected food and some of the bedding. I also transferred a good number of worms to another bin. both bins have recovered luckily. diet now is strictly fresh frozen, or just cooked scraps. Actually my main feed is now"

Pumpkin ( I've got lots! )
coffee grounds
egg shells - pulverized in a food processor
composted cow manure ( I have a 30lb. bag i use in the garden )

Fresh food scraps are frozen and labeled Worm Food..lol Frozen and thawed foods are better than fresh, the breakdown happens faster in thawed foods. My bins sit on top of my dog kennel where its always nice and warm. They seem to be thriving! Already consumed 3-4 pounds of food since I started the bin.

OK so they have been in there for 2 days and when I dig down there seems to be some movement and all is well but on top in a corner in a big lump is a couple hundred worms not moving. When I stir it up still no movement and it smells a little of rotting. Leave it or remove it from the bin? The remaining thousand+ worm underneath seem fine. Is this just loss from transport and will they decompose?
