New Grower I probably should have waited until fall...

<div class="bbWrapper">I could be wrong here (and I probably am) but with AN, grow/bloom/micro series, there is no official switch to Bloom Nutes. It&#039;s just additional P and K added to everything you are already using. IMO as soon as an Auto shows sex, it&#039;s pretty much well on it&#039;s way to flower production, and I add the BB on that day. Worst case, I am pouring it down the drain instead of the plant taking it up. As long as you flush the res every now and again, unused nutes won&#039;t build up too badly. Also, if you&#039;re keeping an eye on the PPM you&#039;ll have a good idea of when you should flush. <br /> <br /> Took me a while, but I think I am finally finding my &quot;groove&quot; with my system. I still do some really dumb things, but the ladies are pretty forgiving. Nearly limitless information here just waiting to be taken in.<br /> <br /> This place saved my first grow. It wound up being impressive enough that I doubled down and bought a second tank. Starting to home in on my method now that I think I&#039;ve settled on equipment. <br /> <br /> Seems to me that the way to maximize whatever yield that phenom can give you boils down to making sure the environment is ideal for the plant. Heat, Humidity, Light, Nutes, etc... Cut, tuck, and crop to keep the light on the flowers. Then they prefer that you just leave them alone. They are happier that way. Like a cat.<br /> <br /> The only way you wind up with no bud is only if you practically go out of your way to make sure the plant dies. Case in point, my aforementioned first grow.. I started two beans in the same one gallon tank. By the time it dawned on me that they needed to be separated it was too late. When the plants started to get really ugly (the problem that led me to this site), I decided it made more sense to kill one of the plants now so it would stop fighting for root space. So I hacked it down to a one foot tall bare stalk sticking in the tank. Didn&#039;t want to pull it out for fear of damaging the roots of the other already weakened plant. Once I solved the source of the original problem (nutrient lockout), not only did the remaining plant make a full recovery, but by the time it was starting to flower, the &quot;dead&quot; plant had launched an impressive comeback. I didn&#039;t have the heart to kill it a second time. At harvest, zombie plant had tons of fans but no flowers.<br /> <br /> Prologue: The flowering plant yielded ~115 grams dry.</div>

Thanks for sharing, Mike. Also, good advice regarding the AN nutrients. Yes, all I would be doing is supplementing the regular mix with a little Big Bud. So, you are saying that there is no reason to hold off on adding to the mix. In your view, are there any downsides to doing that.<br /> <br /> Med and MOG, do either of you use AN, and does the fact that I will not be &quot;switching&quot; nutes change your opinion on adding some BB now. I guess my preference is to add if there are no down side, but all upside.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Adding them as soon as you see some decent sized pistils will do no more harm than possibly wasting nutes. This is only true if you regularly flush the tank. (Drain old nutes, add fresh nutes)<br /> <br /> Where you can run into trouble from overfeeding (aside from plant damage) is water chemistry instability. There are a number of things that can go wrong, but all of them lead to the some form of lockout. And the worst aspect of lockout is by the time you see the effect, a pretty good amount of irreversible damage has been done.<br /> <br /> The only reliable way to avoid this is to completely change out the nute solution on a regular basis. For me, with my teeny 1 gallon tanks, it&#039;s once a week once she starts flowering proper.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">That sounds great. I completely (well almost) drain my reservoir every weekend, so there is no buildup at all. I also have phed water and premixed nutes waiting to top off depending on the plants reaction to the new mix each week. Ppms have slowly increased over the weeks to now at about 1100. I suspect that when I add a little BB, it will increase a bit, but the plants have never shown any signs of nite burn. Heat, yes. nutes, no. They seem to like it when it goes up a bit, which is why I upped the nutes a bit each week. <br /> <br /> I think I will add 1/8th strength BB this weekend, and monitor to see if I should add some water after. At this point, if it can help, I want to try it.</div>

Buds are probably growing like craz, huh?<br /> <br /> My plants are doing well again. I had to switch to a 12 hour light cycle a few days ago, though. In the midst of a heatwave with no end. Been able to time the lights to keep the temps from getting crazy in the cabinet. They seem to like it. <br /> <br /> Just did a defo, to clear the budsites, and will leave them alone until the weekend when I will change the reservoir, and add a taste of big bud. <br /> <br /> Here they are at <br /> <br /> Day 40</div>

Yeah, I learned a lot in 40 days. With what I knew when I started, I am damn surprised they are alive. They are proving that they are determined to provide me with some high quality smoke. These plants have been through a lot. They are late with the flowering, so the veg growth can make up for the stunted beginning. Funny, now I am a bit concerned about them getting two tall with the flowering stretch! Yeah man, came a long way!</div>
