Grow Mediums I want to try hydro, you want to do hydro with me?

@Mañ'O'Green. I cant go 800 ppm now, they would die..... they would not be happy. Wow, man, didnt you say easy with the nutes.... :confused1:
I got i touch of nute-burn having them at 405ppm.. they were good at 320, so i moved back to safesty.

The covering i did today was a must as i did a rez-change in the same time, was a quickfix. I was thinking that black was not optimal but i needed to do something to protect them from light..

I found the orca in my "local" hydro-shop..

Will buy this next time i visit the shop.

Will get some duct-tape and some styrofoam and get it done in the coming days.
But im very supriced how a growing company can sell things that are made for growing, but that allows light to penetrate? Isnt light-penetration like number 1 when constructing a rdwc-system?

Light-leak and the pipe that did not fit... i think we are down to 2 stars out of 5.....

Well in their defence it is a balancing act between heat and light. Heat is worse than light and green is the best color of light if you have to have any. Truth be told if you had hydroguard in the tank the light might not be a problem because the only other thing that might grow is algae and algae is not really a problem unless you had a lot of it. Ideally no light is best.

Did you clean these? I see you were using these. They can leach red dust into your system causing dark roots. You can see my spary paint.

Clay pebbles. Yes i use these, i did clean them, but not with a brush, just cleaned them under rinsing water by hand, then into phed water a couple of times until i got the ph under 6. But i bet there was some dirt left on them.
But it was slime on the roots. We can have a look at the roots now on the one with biggest rootsystem as we now have 2 guys with experience "online".
Ill grab my cam, brb, thank you very much.

@Mañ'O'Green, there will be no painting, will check garage today for foam and ducktape.

i throw my clay into a bucket and soak for a day. then it literally take 30-45 minutes of stirring and dumping back and forth before they even get sort of clean. I have red scum in my buckets even then. Once you cycle them through a grow or two DO NOT throw them out! Im going to take a pic of my Current MBAP with no just nutes and tap no rez. chemicals.

Good grief! it is just clay. If you are buying a high quality PH balanced pebble they just need a quick rinse to get the loose clay off.
Let me add to this: since I only use a handful of clay pebbles in my net pot I do not reuse them. If you reuse them then by all means wash the heck out of them.
