Grow Mediums I want to try hydro, you want to do hydro with me?

How do you measure how far the bottom of the netbasket is from waterlevel in a easy way? Thank you for the help.
It was easy to see the waterline when i just planted the girls.

Good question. I used to use bamboo shish kabob sticks and slide them down the inside of the bucket and then hold the plant on the outside of the bucket for a visual. Now i do a blue tube on the outside of my buckets so i can see the water height. Blue keeps the light out.

If you think it might be too deep take a little water out and see what happens.

Basket is 8 cm, water-level is now 1,5-2 cm under.... i know just by looking it was higher before i did a rez-change.

Before rez-change the water touched the basket... so until today it has touched the basket.

yeah ok. Well one thing for sure you have covered all you bases. The roots might have gotten a little warm for a couple of days and slimed up. I wouldn't be in too much of a panic. You got nice color and are thinking about them. You got some root stuff so good. Talk to you later! Giving you some reps for handling your business. I respect that!

Thank you for the help. Hope its getting sorted out. :smokeout:. Ill look into some reading about water-level. Have a good evening.

@RamboGarden I know I do my DWC things differently than many others and checking out the issues you are having I thought I would like to just raise couple of points. I really try to raise these points without sounding like douchebag or annoying "Mr. Hey I know Everything About Hydro". Because I really don't and want to just provide you with another point of view that has served me well with DWC.

- Your roots look to me just alright. I don't think you should be scared of a tad sliming up. Just make sure you are having enough oxygen to the reservoir. Good level would be about 0.5 litres per minute per litre of total reservoir volume IMO. Some people go higher than that, I know, think of it as a good rule of thumb. Many times you see tanning of the roots and even really brown roots depending on the products that you are using. Kelp -based products really mess your roots to brown but it's ok. It's supposed to be like that. All white and pristine roots are pretty to watch ofcourse but it's beside the point.

- I never really toy around with roots of my plants, never wash or rinse them or anything. I rely mainly on providing enough o2 in the reservoir and enzyme products such as cannazyme or sensizyme when the plant has aged beyond some weeks. Also some beneficial bacteria -products are really good to use and feed with some carbohydrates. Cool thing about them is that they keep all the baddies out. I think most you can do cleaning that young plants roots is to shock it.

- I would advice against using pH that low and EC that high at this stage of the plants growth. She's just a youngster that I'd go even tad lower EC, something like 200ppm - 250 ppm and pH around 6.2 to 6.3 in order for her to get really easy access for Ca and Mg. Good fertilizers these days are chelated so well that all the rest of the elements should be very well available within that pH.

- It would be good to have the water level from the netpot at first about in inch or so and make sure that there are enough bubbles from the airstones that they send water droplets in the air above just to moisturize the developing roots. After the roots hit the water, you can lower the water level accordingly to avoid soaking the netpots too much and allowing more air around it. This helps to keep the plan healthy.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much @MedGrower.
You definetly not sounding like a douchbag, you sound very reasonable.

I think this airpump that came with the system is on 30L/m. That's 50% of your recommendation. Will have a look at a new airpump. I think i have one that's twice as powerfull. Then I would hit 0.5 per liter. I change after I write this.

My nutrients are chelated, I'm 100% possitive. The thing is, according to my nutrint-companies nutrient scheduale they have set ph at 5.2 for first three weeks. I tought that was low, so I set ph at 5.7 and it raises to 6.1 in about 2 days, then I have lowered it again.
But I could let it go from 6 to 6.3.

My tap has an ppm of 76. You keep your total ppm at 200? For how long.

For me its okey if I mess up this grow, I have autopot girls that will cover it.
But I need to learn how to grow dwc if I want to be a true gardener. I have a dream, and I will get there.
All I read I try soak up, but some things I need to learn by do mistakes... its like I feel good when I learn by mistakes as I then understand why it happen in a easier way.

At what day should these girls be seen as Wasted?
They are 50% in size of my autopot girls..

Thank you.

Changed air-pump from a 30lpm to a 60lpm. Now there is alot more activity in the buckets. It might help against the slime aswell.
