I just planted my first plant in the Autopot (2 pot system) and I understand that the directions say to top water at planting but then don't do anymore watering for 7 to 10 days and then "turn on the system".
Is that in reference to filling the reservoir and hooking everything up or is that in reference to turning on the airdome? I'm not using an airdome at this point.

Using the shut off valve?
If so , you can fill it whenever, just wait to turn it “on” until the leaves reach edge of pot. It’s what I read on here and been going by, works fine that way. Airdome I turned on around same time.

I'm running straight coco with airdomes in the autopots. I rehydrate my coco bricks with light nute and calmag solution then next day fill the pots. Then I soak seeds to germ. After about 24hrs I have seeds cracked and starting to show tails. I then mix up another couple gallons of light nute solution and each pot gets 1.5 Liters before I place germed seed into final pot. Once seed sprouts above I start counting days, day 5 they get 500mls light nutes, day 10 they get 750ml - 1L light nutes, day 15 I turn on the airdomes and 1L light nute solution. By day 20 I've mixed up nutes to fill the reservoir and turn it on.

Thanks!
So far so good, fingers crossed.

:yeahthat: That is almost exactly what I do also with soil/perlite medium. @Hansbricks came up with the day 5/10/15 feedings with the rez being turned on around day 20 and it has always worked for me.

I have an XL Autopot system with Airdome. Coco and 30% perlite over grow stone covered airdome. It took a couple of runs to get it right. I have found that frequent, low volume (like 4 oz. water 3X/day) watering was what the seedlings needed to get the root down to the moisture. A soil probe showed that the top 3/4 of media was dry and only the bottom quarter was retaining the moisture. I think the airy mix was letting the seedling get too dry and slowing the growth. This time it's going the way it should. AirDome and res after day 20.

I guess it's like anything else.... plant development varies from strain to strain, grow to grow, grow style to grow style and from grower to grower.

Reading the plants requirements, seeing how, when, and what they need, becomes easier as time goes on and more knowledge / experience is gained.

I personally, don't have a set time to turn on Air or Reservoir, I look at my plants and react accordingly.

For example:-

My current grow (Auto Caramel) is a very fast developer, seedlings were potted up to Autopots at day 10 from sprouting.

After potting they started to develop nicely - about 30 Hrs later...

The Air was turned on at Day 14 whilst still hand watering - leaf had reached the side of the pots, more air always helps root development

At Day 17 the reservoir was turned on.

At Day 22 the two plants in this grow had already consumed 8 ltrs of reservoir feed/water between them.

They won't take it, if they didn't want it !

So.... thats my way, depending on your conditions etc, individual mileage will vary...

If you want to take a look at how I do it, in a bit more detail >>> Link Here <<<

Hope that helps.

Hey guys. What is the reason for not turning on the reservoir after say 1 week or even right away? I ask because I am not home very often and cant hand water.

because they bottom feed and the roots need to reach the bottom i turn mine on around 10 days after potting 10 day old seedlings out of my solo cups so my plants will be around day 20 give or take plus im on my 6th grow using them with clay pebbles as a base and rest being coco
