Lighting Interesting LED Light Comparison Video

in this study by Utah state University they seem to be "not so good", those california lightworks lights -atleast compared to hps, regarding use in horticulture

I'm with a lot of people who commented on that study. Not only could I not see where it shows California lightworks specifically but also they show cost effectiveness by using 3000 hours on a product that has an expected life of over 50,000 hours. So the parameters of the study are false to begin with. But interesting nonetheless.

also they show cost effectiveness by using 3000 hours on a product that has an expected life of over 50,000 hours
they say:
"When operated at favorable temperatures, individual LEDs generally have a predicted lifetime (to 70% of the initial light output) of up to 50,000 hours, about 16.7 years when used an average 8 hours per day or 3000 hours per year."
They say it will run about 17 years if used for 3000hrs per year.

Not only could I not see where it shows California lightworks specifically
?
In the charts it says California Light Works SOLARSTORM specifically, 337Watt @ 1,04 umol Photons per Watt energy Input.
In the appendix they say its a solarstorm 440.

But I wonder, on Cali HP they say they use Osram ssl diodes, which are pretty good if driven soft.
Did they upgrade their 440 maybe at some point?

wow,. if they're using german made ones, oslon ssl80 diodes then they're up with the times that's for sure.
Osram also have a factory in china tho, dragon osram. the Bsled Chloro Bac2 LED, the one that was $1500 per unit, lol, had them. but cob ones. hence the price of the danged thing. and yeah $1500 from china, plus all the crap that went with it, a whole nest of bees there and I aint rattling it. lol. Anyway, point being, Osrams = the nuts.

It does not only depend on the type of led but also very much on the driving current.
for the 440, when its without driver and uv about 300W and it has 144 diodes, thats about 2W per diode.
SSL 80 e.g. hyperred is only very nice at 1W per diode, which is the "typical" value all over the datasheet.
Id say its still good, but nothing to be super enthusiastic about.

What puzzles me is that in that study the blackdog with its cheap 3W leds should be way beind the solarstorm with its osram. But its not.
Did Cali ever comment on that study?

If you watch the product video they use 5 watt led diodes.
88 5 watt diodes which is the equivalent of 440 hence the name.

Their spec sheet and brochure neither say 5W leds (bc Osram ssl isnt cant go up to 5W) nor 88 leds.

yea something like that. Counting them it doesn't seem like that many though. Weird .

Yea I have a friend that used to tell me that my lights are junk. But every time we trade tent shots my veg tent and flower tent look better then his. He wants an 880 now =p

How do you like the Aptus line? I am switching over to them next month.

Dude I Absolutely love the aptus line. Let me know when you are starting to use it and I'd be glad to explain what works for me and how I use it. Be ready to grow some primo buds my friend.
