I've had one of these for >1 year so I thought Id write a short review in case any one is interested.
Its a pocket sized, self contained vaporiser. Works for tobacco and greens as well ;

http://www.iolite.com/our-vaporizers/iolite-vaporizers.html

Its an Irish company that makes them and I like the fact they stated all materials were to medical grade. It refills with a butane can, and self regulates temperature. Its kind of like a big lighter with a vaporising chamber and a mouthpiece basically.

Pretty neat piece of kit, and I prefer to the wooden electric ones. Its easy to refill and smokes for a fair time continuously (switches itself on and off to maintain vaping temp over long periods, 20min 30min etc). Easier than having to flash a heating element with power and time it right.

Negatives were that its not so easy to carry wen travelling since its a compressed gas an basically. Have to empty it, load it in checked baggage and see about getting a can of gas the other side of your trip.

Can need a regular clean especially if you are using sticker tobacco, flavoured shisha stuff particularly which is almost jam. Needs a clean but a very pleasant smoke.

The pronged centre piece is also worth it, gets a better heat spread inside the chamber and better vaping I found, esp with greens.

Always good to hear from somebody that has one ... how long does a refill last ... how many refills from a can of butane ... is filling it easy or hard .... how much $$ for a can of butane ... Can you fill it w/ herb in the morning and take an occasional hit from it all day long or longer ?

Each refill lasts a good while, maybe up 30mins+ of continuous on time. While its on it keeps a job of keeping temperature in the right zone. Its preset, so no temp control. Other vapes might extract more of the high temp stuff but its pretty good for hassle free on the go.
Filling is very easy, it has the same gas input valve as a disposable lighter so its just a case of a quick squirt and your done, negligible refill time. The butane cans don't cost a lot, couple of £ for a fresh bottle. Some people recommend particular brands of gas, I found the Swan we get in UK to be good. Us version of same brand is not as well refined I heard, so basically get good refined gas.
Yes technically you could fill it in the morn and take some chugs through the day, depends how muc you get through really. But it works best with smaller amounts broken down well and heated nice and even in the chamber. I find it best to put a small amount in there more regularly. As it comes to temp it will release most of what it can up to that temp, eventually there wont we so much good stuff or hit coming off it. You could in theory take that and blast it through your larger vape to release some of the higher temp ones in a big vape later I guesse.
chamber is easy ish to refill , top comes off where the pipe is and reveals the refill chamber, just clear it out, load in some new stuff and pop the top back on. Goo pocket sized vape. Some folks even stuffed it into drinks carton and took it to a football game with the "straw" sticking out the top :)

i was thinking of getting one of these, thanks for the info.

No problem. Id recommend it if you use something else regularly but want to add this option to your vaporiser arsenal. I couldn't live off it, but good for hols, and lot more portable than some, less dodgy looking than others. you might mistake it for a walkie talkie or something. Build quality is pretty good and all spares available. Get some pipe cleaners also, and spare mesh filters, and the spikey insert that thing works nicely.

Yip good info there DK :peace:

Seems like they have a new model thesedays also, whisper. To be honest the original is not noisy or anything, emits a gentle sshhh sound whenever the self regulating thing trips it to start and cuts out to quiet in between. if there was some music on or out and about you wouldnt even know it was working. When you start it up there is a trigger on the side with a piezo to light it first time, sometimes it takes more than one click, that's probably the noisiest bit but that's no problem.

Do you find it smoother than the smoke form a spliff , as ive never tryed these but fancy trying one out of curiosity DK :peace:

its not the same Ill say that, at the start it can be quite a hit, don't lung it as fast as you can. You just learn to regulate how much to take and whether to wash it down with a bit of air also. First few hit off a new chamber load there is more in the vapour, so it feels like a good throat hit if you are after that, otherwise be careful you can start out coughing with too deep a chug!

Otherwise, yes pretty smooth. I mix it often with flavoured cigar tobacco, its smooth smokle and not to sticky to bung up the unit. This way it smokes longer seeing as not everything is going to get vaporised super quick, and gives a satisfying smoke. You can play with different tobacco mixes, it vaporises the nicotine too btw.

If you've tried any e-cigarettes lately then the smoke is similarly different to smoking, but obviously with a much nicer hit. Most of those things are basically vapes but with liquid to vaporise rather than vaporising from the tobacco/green directly like the iolite.

I have a couple of different e-cigarettes also , Ego-T and Eclipse models. They are even more compact but fill with e-juice , a liquid which has a base and added nicotine to some strength. I want to look into making "hot" e-juice sometime, ie adding some thc to it. Probably (hopefully!) when I get some yield off my first grow :)
Im starting up my project and entering the AFN 32oz cup growing competition also, to drive myself on a bit , keep watch here if you like :)
