Hi guys!

About to embark on my third grow, bit of a break since my last but I’m keen as!
Timing is terrible coming into summer, especially for an attic grow, but I just can’t help myself!

The beans
1 x jack herer
1 x Dutch passion cbd compassion lime (grew this last time and loved it)

The Grow Zone
2 x 4 x 6
Coco Coir (hand water) 70/30 perlite - Sensi pro brand mix
Sensi Pro Bio Diesel - whole lineup (will attach their schedule)
Organic derived ingredients, not certified organic but hearing good things.
Have some left over Canna rhizotonic and Mammoth P, rather old though.
Professor nutrients ph up and down (organic)
Fabric pots 3 gallon or 7 (no fives in stock and I cant find my old ones!) thoughts?

Electricals
Optics 2 205w dual cob with diode “bloom boosters” (uv/ir)
2 x optic 1 xl’s 100w each full spec.
6” AC infinity inline fan
2.9kw portable AC fan hooked up to an inkbird thermo controller
Air stone and pump for 24 minimum water bubblyness
Bluelab EC pen and Ph pen

First time in coco, so any words of advice are always greatly appreciated.

The plan...
Beans in wet paper towels getting their feet wet as I type. They are nearly 2years old now so I’m counting my stars and hoping they’d be lucky.
Gonna follow nute manufacturers schedule but following C.E2’s coco guide with regard to the PPM’s especially. I’ll mix nutes a little stronger in ratio and then dilute as necessary.
Have read that Cana rhizo is ace to get them started in coco, so gonna mix some up with a very little bit of the green diamond A&B (base) and the supernatural to an EC of .7 or there’s about with a ph5.7.
Beans will get dunked and then go under humidity domes with misting of plain water as necessary.
After the first day of above ground I’m inclined to stick with plain water for the first few days. With the precharge of the soil I think they will be fine.... correct me if I’m wrong and need to go straight into feed mode.
I found watering in a circle around the seedling and not directly to the base worked great last time, but with coco, I ain’t so sure.
I see a lot of people saying you cant let it dry out, not just for the plant, but for the actual substrate; hydrophobia, ph imbalances, etc. Does this mean full waterings to run off from the get go?

I will start with just the optics 2, no bloom boosters, at a height of around 70cm.
Ambient temps outside the tent are all over the place in general, not making it so easy to keep it constant. Ac steps in at 30C, extractor comes with a controller with smart mode, every 2c below setting it drops a level, 6 levels in total, goes max at 28c. We’ll see how that pans out.

Two questions... 3 or 7 gall pots and any advice on the coco pre charge before planting would be ace.

Thanks and happy growin!!

It has begun!
Seeds sprung a root over night, 24 hours so I’m hoping that’s a sign they’re gonna be good to go. 2 year storage had me a little concerned. Happy days!! Paper towel btw, kept moist with spray and between two plates. Been chilly so band my seedling heatpad in the draw with them, but with spacers and two pieces of cardboard.

Went with what I thought was right, 3 gall pots.
Precharge was a bit of a funny one though. Was gonna go to .8ec but that would of doubled recommended...!?! It would seem I’ve clearly overlooked something, but I’m admittedly a little pedantic about these things.

5 litre of water, ec .1
Canna rhizo: 7.5ml
Green diamond a&b: 8ml
Supernatural: 4ml
Ph’d to 5.8
Resulting ec.5

ec pen calibrated with 2.77 solution, ph pen also calibrated with 7&4.
The fact I additionally added rhizo to the mix made me very hesitant to go any more being over the what the schedule recommends.

anyway, what’s done is done!
Beans are now in with little humidity domes. Will keep moist with misting regularly. Will let them stay in domes for a day or two after raising their heads and keep misting with plain water. Possibly I should be ph balancing the mist but I have never done that previously and I’ve been fine...?
After a few days I plan on starting the feed schedule following manufacturers guidelines. I’m very hesitant to go down ec route now, seems crazy the manufacturer would be so under!?!

Temps 26c rh 60%

If you do happen to pass by don’t hesitate to give your opinion, all are appreciated.

thanks n happy growin!

0.4 EC would be a good amount for a precharge, 0.8 should be fine, maybe a tiny bit of tip burn if it’s too hot. I would start with mild nutes with the first watering, you don’t want to be watering with just plain water in coco. Shoot for around 200-250ppm (0.4-0.5 EC), and just water in a circle around the middle to outside of the pot. I can usually get away with every feeding every 4-5 days for the first 2-3 weeks. Once you get around 3 weeks old you will want to start increasing fertigation, and shoot for 10-15% runoff with each watering!

Hi @Garage_Grower , thanks for stopping by and the words.
Sounds good mate, just found myself a little confused as to how much higher I had to go compared to the schedule. Everywhere I read is like 1/2 the strength, 1/4 the strength, not double it haha!
Was thinking I’d stay at that mark, with that mix up, like you say for the first couple of weeks.
I like the technique of watering from middle from centre to edge out to get those roots reaching, its a great idea.
4-5 days seems like quite a while, what size pots you in? Got mine in 11 litre, would 3 litres each of watering be overkill?
I tend to do 1 litre each back and forth with little breaks between. Put in 2.5 litres for the precharge and no run off.

On another note, the compassion lime has raised her head! Barely though so not quite counting it yet. Popped in 20hours since dropping her in, seems like she’s gonna shoot of, I hope! The jack herer had a much smaller taproot when she was dropped so expecting her to be a little behind in wakin up.

Thanks for the help GG, much appreciated

I’ve got most of my plants in 3gal fabric pots of Promix hp, with a couple in 2gal pots. I usually will have only fed them about 3 times by day 15, then it’s usually 3 days between waterings until I notice the pots drying out more. When they’re still small just give them a half litre or so of feed, then once they’re week 3ish increase it to about 1L. I feed my plants just over 1L each day right now mid-flower, bumping it up to 2L if I want good run-off.

Your environment plays a big role too, if it’s too warm/not humid enough the pots will dry out faster, and vice versa, not warm enough/too humid then they will stay wet.

ok great, thanks again mate! I’ll definitely be going by weight, that was always the plan, thought I’d need more than just 1 litre at week 3 though! I’d plan on going by weight of pot anyway, if they get light quick, increase I guess.

Definitely at the whim of the localised weather here. Being in an attic and coming into summer has me nervous! We had a few 30c days a week or two ago and temps soared! Right now we got cold weather coming through and temps are steady at 22c - 26c, rh 55-65%. It’s blooming perfect, but I ain’t sure it gonna last!
I do have an Ac hooked up, but I still got to do some fiddling to reduce the positive pressure it creates inside the tent.

Day 1 - 30th October
Compassion like is well in the lead showing of her first little set of serrated leaves :)
Jack Herer is just about to raise his head, I’ll probably see his little face before my bed time.
