DIY Jcloud's ventilation help thread

Until the worker ants take the boraxo/sugar bait back to kill the queen you can use Tanglefoot around where they come in. I just put the sugar/Boraxo mixture 50/50 in a jar and shake. Put a small amount where they come out of the ground in the early evening as they forage at night. Replenish every few days or after rain.

@Need4Weed @Mañ'O'Green I've used that it works good, but won't be necessary I.'ve got everything figured out finally. :woohoo1: I'm going to go to my local homeimprovement store. Buy a fine mesh metal screen to stop the ants. A 4 inch duct vent to stop rain from getting in exhaust hole. It will also block light an put the mesh over it nobody will even realize what it is.
:woohoo::cooldance:

so far looks like your doing the right thing, check out bug screen caps for the end of your intake / out pipes. I don't now how fine the mesh is compared to normal window bug screen but they are cheap and worth the buy just to see if they work... on the window I think your doing the right move... what you could do to improve in the design is make a boxing on the in side of the window. Paint the ply wood black that's facing out. also Put some net curtains up in the window and leave it open a crack for the air to escape. From the out side from a small distance it should look like a dark window with the curtains pulled... if you seal it well no ant should get in bar the out take pipe but if that's got good screen on you should be all sorted

My plywood is going to cover the whole bottom portion of the window. It's going to be rectangle cut to fill the partially open window. Im going to gorilla glue thick black trash bag layer.Over the entire outer plywood to deflect rain an prevent wood from rotting. After I pop my 4 in hole through wood that is. An slide my 4 inch black duct vent. Cut a circle out wire mesh metal screen to glue over the 4 in vent. An from the inside my 4 in duct 90 degree elbow. Will go on other side. To keep my curtain down it's not very long.An I should be all set to attach my ducting.

a good method for quietening noise from you exhaust (if you feel its to noisy by the window) is to have the pipe make a few 180 bends before the air leaves it. BY travailing further down the pipe and having to go round bends slows the air movement down considerably and quietens it.

I'm going to buy a 4 inch variable speed controller to deal with the noise problem. All the material sounds pricey, but I got ducting already and just need to buy a carbon filter. An some hangers. Anybody know where to find nylon belt hangers?

careful on fan controllers the cheap ones ($50 - $150) will just make your fan louder by making it hum, yes it reduces the air flow which in turn quietens the out take but that hum from the fan may become louder than the out take air movement noise.... I've built silencer boxers for my fans (I do use larger than you) but in your situation that looks like its not possible... looking at that tent and your using a 4" fan you may not need to dial it back... if you don want to get lower price controller I recommended to SMS single fan one , they are about £60 in the UK (that where I'm, from). I use one and it does the job great but still makes the fan hum a bit. I had to build silencer boxes for my fans to sit in to deaden the noise.

When it come to fan controllers, the more you spend the better the product... with out going into the workings of fan controllers the really pricey one's don't make your fan hum.

WOW! Thanks a ton I was actually considering building a silencer box if nothing worked. Im going to take your advice. An try to build a strong silencer box out of wood or something??? What'd you use to build yours? An the inline fan still fit on the carbon filter? much needed advice thanks before I go through the trouble. I will check out the sts fan see what your talking about. My tent is a 2 x 2 x 3. Your right all the air being pushed out. Will be noticeable most likely damn. That's going to be a issue
