New Grower Jimmy's Newbie Grow

Thank you guys, all input is massively appreciated!

I gotta coupla hours work to do then I have the rest of the weekend to smash this! I'm hoping the problem is cos of the ambient temp... although my doors leak at the moment so I'll sort that out. I really thought my intake was a bit too big, but I'll play around with that and see what happens.

Thankyou you wonderful people :wg's Cool:

We are due some cooler weather this weekend. I truly never thought I would frown at the sun in this country!

Nice Start Jimmy!

:goodluck:

I'm in!

I started with CFLssssss although not the little ones, i went straight in for the sigle big assed bulbs.
And i started with biobizz!! For a few years!

Hopefully the cabs settled down a bit with the cooler weather.

I've gone from 2 years of CFls, to 2 years of HPS and I've been on LED ever sinse and not regretted it. The fact is, come the winter, I'll need to run a little 15w tube heater in the cab to add a bit of warmth, but in the summer time, I'm laughing all the way :)

If you have disposable income, I'd (personally) certainly start looking into LED ^_^

Blue :d5:

You're not the first to suggest that Blue... you sound like you have progressed organically through the different methods, and one day I hope to be LED, but I am a lowly padawan right now!

Learn from the ground up, i must :grin:

Anyway the temps are stabilizing... with 4 x 30w cfls and the floor-fan i am getting 80f, and I have altered nothing, just temp has dropped outside... I reckon it is germination day!!

Should I make the drobe airtight around the doors when closed? I read somewhere that gaps don't matter too much for autos...

Is 80f ok?

Thank you one and all for your help :grat:!

Yeah :D

That's fine. My CFL and HPS cabs would go up to 95 ... that's not good.
Anything between 70-85 is pretty acceptable.

I learned everything i know about growing from AFN and a thread on another forum that was started by the (lovely) founder of AFN ("Dancing Psiren") .. and a bit of practice with some good advice from our lovely members of course hehe.

80f is about perfect for germination. - have you got a method in mind?? :)

Airtight would be good for making sure the air gets exchanged and will keep the smell a bit more contained. I presume you're being safe and have a Carbon Filter already in place :)

You don't need to worry about light leaks with autos :)

Yea man, Ive been growin my current grow at 80-86 with good results so far.

I do have some minor leaks also. This has not resulted in any negative effects that Im aware of to my plants. All I see is green leaves and the buds getting ready to pack on =D.

You should be good to go now man.:goodluck:

I am putting them in damp paper towels using bottled still water and then into the cab... I intend to use day-old tap water in the future but I can't wait to get goin!

And carbon filter in place :0)

Pop your (carefully folded) towels in a sealable sandwich bag if you can and then in a small box too :)

This'll help keep the towels moist and the sandwich bag gets nice and humid too.
I used to pop the box on a xbox or skybox - they've got the right heat to make seeds pop. Now i keep them by a tube heater that is in my cab (very low heat out put)

Give them 2 days and then carefully check to see you have tails. :)

Hope this helps
Blue

Is the space you are venting your exhaust fan into well ventilated? I'd recommend a variable speed control for your fan. I'm growing under a LED and have found that I can control the temp well with ventilation speed. Smell may become a big issue if you have to worry about anyone else noticing what you're up to.

Thanks Jack yeh the topbox is ventilated. Did you mean I should try varying the speed of the exhaust fan? it came with the carbon filter and is set at one speed... I've mislaid the blurb but it was something like 100 sq m per hour. Which is a lot I think.

My temps are hanging around 82-83 so I've decided to go ahead as others here are coping/have coped with that sort of heat. One Afghan Kush Ryder and one Candy Cush waitin to pop as I type.

Oh happy day! :dance2:

jimmy, if you keep getting heat problems consider cutting a piece out of the lower rear of your cupboard, covering the hole with mesh and removing your intake fan. I've got the side flap open at the bottom of my tent, it's about 12" x 18" so plenty of fresh air gets in passively and the 4" exhaust fan still gives negative pressure no problems.
