Grow Mediums JR's Poco Loco in the Coco.....

Jayar, that's a nice looking setup!

Wanted to show yall my table, used cheap pine with a few screws and nails here and there. For the top I used aluminum screen.. at first I put one layer but found it too weak so I added a double layer on top so three layers of screen. Seems better now but hope it holds up. Another thing I noticed I shoulda used big washers instead of tacks. Hindsight always 2020 lol.

In the bottom of the table I lined plastic sheeting and put a hole in the center for drainage. Much better than using the corrugated plastic and gutters.

Overall the table is 20" tall, and 30"x30" wide. Plenty of space underneath for the 5 gallon reservoir, all my nutes and tools :)

Up next is fitting the scrog.

"AFN smoke out"

Not seeing the pics Jay :( is it safe to assume your table is similar to Truu's?

Here's what my first coco grow looked like.

This is a 4'x4' tent.
I wish all the others that followed turned out like her. Working on that...
Lately I have been treating my coco ladies like hydro girls.
No dry out period. The results have been great.

holy crap were on the exact same page of the book here, im running coco always wet, drip system. Now my plant, looks like a toy compared to yours. Like a garbage can. Seriously. Its healthy but about 3/4 foot high. I was thinking because I was running a wet cycle all the time I was suffuring in the root develkpment department. But if your wet all the time and you get monster trees, not plants, clearly im retarding it in another way. Its a dark devil. Could it just be the phenol.

Thanks G, love the way it turned out!!

My bad bro let me get some up for you. Make sure the 'remember me' option is ticked when you log in, that fixed all my pic viewing issues.

If I had to guess bro it would be that you didn't give her enough dry cycles in the first couple of weeks or you didn't use root stimulators. You want as big a root ball as possible before cranking up the feeds. Your oxygen levels in the water/coco could have been a problem too, you need to add perlite or hydroton to get it airy and you should add an airstone to your res so that it stays oxygenated.

Top man Jay :) thanks for the pics advice. I always got remember me ticked (save me from remembering who I am (JK))

Does this set up use a constant very slow drip or is it timed. If it is timed what sort of timer do you use and is it important to have seconds intervals or is it ok to use mintute intervals?

I am seriously intrigued, this set up looks awesome and simple to put together.

I am also wondering if the coco is to be keep perpetually wet what ratio of perlite to coco will you use, my autopot recommends 50/50 mix, just wondering if it will be something like that?

One more question if you don't mind, as the water from the drip ring sinks through the coco wont that draw more air down?
It is also possible to use the air pump to pump the water up and oxgenate it at the same time as with "Water/Aqua farm".
I only wonder this because the root won't ever be in the water like DWC (or will they?) If they don't, I would rather have a nute mixing pump and an air powered water pump as mentioned above. Just wondering what your thoughts were?

thanks bro :)

It's timed bro, but it flows like a gentle stream instead of dripping. It's going to power on for 2 minute intervals. You could get a timer that was able to power on for seconds, but those are considerably more expensive. Mine has a minimum of 1 minute 'on' time. This is the one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BPOBTY

Yeah bro I use a ratio of about 70/30 coco to perlite. For the first couple of weeks, dry cycles are VERY important. That's why you need a root stimulator and a small pot, so that it dries up faster and makes more roots, faster. After that, you can throw as much water as you want at em and they'll take it all!!

One more question if you don't mind, as the water from the drip ring sinks through the coco wont that draw more air down?

Yeah it' will draw more air into the coco, but that's a good thing. We need as much o2 as possible to keep the root mass healthy. Being as this system produces huge globs of roots, things can take a bad turn of you don't have enough oxygen.

It is also possible to use the air pump to pump the water up and oxgenate it at the same time as with "Water/Aqua farm".

Yeah the root ball will stay in the pot with the coco. My reservoir has one airstone/pump to keep the nutes and water fresh, and another submersible pump that delivers the feed to the pots. Two different pumps tho... not sure if there's an all-in-one pump that will both oxygenate and pump out feed.

Glad to be of help bro, if you have any more questions bro holla at me any time.

Some great tips there Jayar. I want to try coco at some point, your thread is going to be a great reference point :)

Thanks Jay for taking the time to answer my questions, very good answers man.

The type of pumping used in an aqua farm is called an air lift pump. Your water delivery tube goes from your rez to drip ring, into this tube goes you air supply and it forces your nute solution up the delvery tube and out through the drip ring. This has a two fold advantage of supplying nute solution and oxygenation at the same time.

Here is a vid of how to set up an aqua farm to give you an idea of what I mean, the delivery system is easy to make - plastic pipe, air supply & tubing, drip ring plus some grommets.

Hope you like it
