what dosage are you running? Usually if anything people will run into Mag deficiency. Include pictures if possible!
I run RDWC using (hard) tap water.
The tap has 200-230ppm (500 scale) - about 0.7 EC I think
I put it in an extra res for 2 days with an airstone running without adding anything else.
Yes, this does change the pH, but I run airstones in each of my pots, so that will happen anyway and I would rather compensate for it BEFORE giving it to the plants.
Inside the res, I also have a small aquarium pump running to give better circulation and ensure I do not get any sediment settle.
After 2 days, I pH down the water to about 6.5-6.8
Once I have left that running for a few hours, I add Remo Magnifical, Ataclean line cleaner (adds some ppm), a water surfactant and a Silicon additive.
When they have been running for an hour or so, I add MC from a solution I have pre-made until it hits the desired ppm for the age of the plants.
This SOUNDS more complicated than it actually is.
- fill storage reservoir
- aerate/circulate for 2 days
- add all the items needed
- wait for an hour or so and re-check pH
- Do the res change
I just wish the MC was slightly lighter on N as I have several plants that had an N Tox issue early on due to using a COB for the grow and needing a calmag solution - very few calmag solutions have no N.
Currently, I am slightly lowering the MC strength and adding some Remo Astroflower (a PK booster) to try and compensate. It is not a perfect way of doing it as it is also reducing all the micro/base nutrients that are needed in addition to the N.
The deficiency is probably more of an mg issue rather than Calcium due to the slightly hard water having plenty of Ca.
I have ordered a 5kg tub of epsom salts to use that instead of the calmag - hopefully it arrives in a few days and sorts my issue out.
