Outdoor Late outdoor grow

Keen'- the silvery stippled areas are thrip damage,... (the ragged holes are slug/snail damage, as you know, which can occur anywhere on the leaves and stems, BTW,... they feed with a rasping, rough tongue, so the damage they make is tell-tale, and they can attack a leaf from any angle)... thrips have piercing mouth parts, and like to stab and stab away sucking up juices, little bastards! They are highly mobile, adults can fly, and often leave the scene of the crime... sizes are very small, but not mite-small.. this dash would be a good sized thrip (-).... adults and larvae feed on the top and bottoms of leaves; eggs are laid in/on the plant; larvae pupate in the soil, but don't feed during this life stage.... Treatments become trickier as you go deeper into blooming,.. neem (raw first press seed oil type is best) will work, but I don't like the residue it leaves behind, and if mixed improperly, to concentrated, it can burn leaves, damage pistils, etc.,... I'm an outdoor grower, and thrips are ubiquitous! (along with leaf hoppers and aphids)... I've had excellent results with products that have Spinosad in it; several brands have it in their line-up... are you stateside? If so, horti-stores will carry something likely, or even Home Depot (Capt'n Jacks Dead Bug).... It leaves minimal residue, has zero impact on the plant, and is fairly broad spectrum killing power... it's a neurotoxin derived from an obscure bacterium... don't let that term freak you out, mate... even pyrethrum is a neurotoxin, made from chrysanthemums,... as mentioned, thrips are around always, so you'll have to retreat occasionally, and inspect often! There are several other products that will do the job too... Azamax has a great rep',...*** So, pick a weapon,.. alas, too late to skip the neem, but that's good to have around anyway... someplace here, there's a good article about the various benefits of pure neem oil, beyond pest control...*** ..sticky traps kinda cut both ways,... yellow and blue attract several vermin bugs, but not like a magnet!..some will still take to the plants... they're generally better for just seeing what's snooping around the plants, and get an idea about the population size in that area,... Ag' pro's put these out all over for this very purpose,... *** Ah! just saw the product link-- not in the States... still, you can get spinosad products via that source,...look it up, or visit a horti-store if you have one around, or even just call garden centers locally... it's not an uncommon product... :ama: kick some buggy ass mate! :goodluck:

Day 54:
Neemed the plants at 20:00 as much as I dare they are pretty wet. Leave them 3 days and go again as long as there are no side effects.

Day 55:
Mixed up 5lt of PH 6.3water with 2ml of grow, 2.5ml of bloom and 1ml topmax per litre. Watered first thing in the morning.

Day 57:
neemed the plants again tonight 20:00. Spraying enough on for run off. Gonna do this for 9 days in total. Let's hope it works.
Also hung a sticky trap in the middle of the grow area to see if I can a catch any intruders!!

Update to my mephisto 24 Carat, planted same day so Im on day 60 now. Didnt get very big, about 14 inches tall but getting fairly chunky. I tried to pollinate her, but not sure if it worked yet. Its been getting cold out, down in the 30s and 40s at night and up into the 70s during the day. She was pollinated about a week ago so I might have to let her run long, for seeds to develop, I think she could be harvested any time now tho...

Yeah, Ive got my fingers crossed, could really use 50+ good seeds for next year. My reversed female has a lot of male flowers on it, and the are opening and look normal, but dont see much for pollen. Im hoping its just because she is outdoors and the wind is blowing the pollen away right away. I also cut a small branch off her and took it to my guerrilla HBSS, took a pill bottle and melted a hole in the top large enough for the stem to fit through and stuck the male branch in there, filled with water so hopefully a few balls opened there and gave me some of those seeds also. I taped the pill bottle around the stem of the female plant, about half way up so that should pollinate the bottom of that plant. I really like HBSS so far and would like to have some more of that flavor to plant next summer, without having to spend $10/seed again.

I've put my plants out this morning and everything is soaking wet outside and more rain for cast for today. It got me thinking, is it worth keeping them in on a window ledge if the weather is gonna be like this?

Treenan great looking girls. Your plants look a lot further along than mine! Only one of mine has really burst into flower at the mo the other 2 are still in what I would say is a pre flower stage. Holding they are gonna get a wriggle on and finish before the frost mold comes in!!
