Lighting LED VS. LED (brands)

when it comes to led panel's most are way to expensive!!!! these panels cost 500 to 1100 dollars, and they work well! BUT and this is a big BUT a panel that cost 250 dollars can and will grow bud just as well.
so why spend all that extra money. to much pure hype going on. THIS is my opinion. it hurts me to see good people sell themselves out, when they get panels to test. and rave about them,
you know who you are. these panels that are now advertised on afn, most are not worth anywhere near what they cost. they work just fine, as well as the inexpensive panels do.
gotta agree with all of that astro! BUT, if your budget can afford what you think the cadillac is and you dont want the lower end led, you are gonna buy the light you want. It can be said for all led companies, that they are all in it for profit, otherwise they wont be around long. Let not kid ourselves! First rule of business, sales cures all your woes!! Does brand X perform better then brand Y because its more expensive? Not all the time. Yes I have tested panels, yes I have given reviews. Have I skewed my output on that panel because it was a test panel? NO! Feedback good and bad, helps a company grow and the ones that do listen to their buyers/testers, change and fix the bad things they hear about, or they simply wont be around long. So essentially we ARE doing the work for them. Which is great. Should we get paid for that? NO,because I'm not an employee. I am a consumer. Things happen. I have said it before, if their panels break in their warranty period and you dont make your case to send it back, even though they want you to fix it yourself, you do have the right to ask that vendor in their thread to send you a shipping label and fix your led! Be kind about it, be professional about it, and be adamant about it. Social media is a great tool sometimes IF done in a calm manner. Take the emotion out of it and be professional. I will say it again, if your buy a cheaper panel, thinking you are getting a great deal, one should wrap their head around that panel at the very least making it to its warranty period. If it doesn't and you are getting a hard time from that vendor, then the BEST piece of information I can give, is get ahold of a staff member for help! That is what we are here for! That also being said, spend your money on a company that has a great warranty! Cheaper led companies offer a person on a fixed income to get growing and fill a niche in the market, again not for everyone. I am telling you guys, if you want a bad ass panel on the cheap, that will fill the void of
1)lasting a long time
2) getting great growing results
3) getting the best bang for your buck
then build your own!! No warranty that way, but the guys building their own with the newest COB tech are putting all the other led companies results to shame. Cob isnt for everyone, but if you want to give it a go, here is the link...

anybody here ever run an led 24/0 for 50,000 hours?
I have had 2 California Lightworks Solar Storm 400's on 20/4 since late 2011 and not 1 problem with either panel!! thats 36000 hours, but the 5 year warranty is up on them. See that's the trick, dont look at the hours warranty, look at how many years the company has for its warranty.

@jingo, I am willing to answer any questions and give you any links on site, to help you out man. I want you to feel comfortable cruising around site. So, feel free to shoot me a pm!

I don't have a lot of money, so if I can buy a panel that at $250 does as good a job as the super magnum solaris golden wonder panel. at $ 1100 I would rather pocket the 850.
that's the slogan of the 21st century..." why pay less when you can spend more"

My intention wasn't to make a bash thread. I was just curious. I know some guys have the room to do A-B style grows. Using the scientific method and applying it to LED lights would really prove and disapprove a lot of brands

Hey everybody thanks for putting up with my rant. I had chance to get to the root of MY problem and sad always it's ME. Si I've made s few adjustments to my attitude today. Now if could only get in through crapatalk today if be set.

I know that was not your intention. There are plenty of that stuff on youtube already. Almost every led manufacturer has their "Our led is better than Brand X" videos on their sites too. Bottom line, they will all grow some good plants is the only thing i am trying to convey. It's a personal choice of led to get and what your budget will allow. Many, many companies to choose from, many price ranges to choose from, many warranty's to choose from. My only feeling on it is, regardless of what company you decide to buy from, make sure the warranty is solid. They all want to send you the parts to fix your own. Why? Simply put, it's cheaper for them do do that and if you owned that company, it would be smart business for you to go with cheaper alternative, so if all of them want you to fix your own panel, if there are problems, I say build your own from the start and have a better product! Spend the time and look at some of these light those guys are building in the DIY led thread! Amazing tech and their plants reaction to their lights are astounding!:headbang:

Ok guys

seems there are some points that should be cleared up.
Briman has done a great job of pointing out some great points of interest surrounding your concerns!
Big respect to you brother bri!:slap: you get a slap from me!

Lets start with some basics
AFN is a one of a kind forum, here we live by the AFN vibe!
What is the AFN vibe, it is being nice and helpful to all members and that includes our vendors too.
This is Harry the hairy monster he is our AFN vibe mascot:vibe: see he is wiggling with the vibe.
We do not denigrate companies, members or staff by this I mean, we don't put them down or bad mouth them.

Any problems with a light that is still under warranty, you need to go to the rep in their section.
Do it politely and with respect, it generally will get you much further than going full melt down.

If a light is out of warranty then it has past the date where you can return it or get it fixed under warranty, the company who you bought it from would have stated a Warranty period when you bought it.

Please contact a member of staff if you have difficulties.

Getting to know the members is a great way to find out how things work and they will let you know where to find things.
Our members are second to none! we are a very friendly bunch and we love to help each other.:bighug:

I would recommend Live stoners as a great place to hang out, there are always staff passing through and lots of fun and chat!
There are also live interview too, you will find your feet there and maybe make a few friends in the process.:pass:

No one wants to tell you what to do but we all need to follow the AFN vibe which makes this place so special, so if you keep to that you should be on the right track!:vibe:

If anyone wants to fight, troll or flame here is not the place, there are plenty of forums where you can have a good old barney and no one will bat an eye! Just don't do it here please:toke:

I could write and Essay on the pro's and cons of any type of light you can think of but that's not why I am here today.
I want to make it clear we do what is right and decent and that's all there is to it.
If you truly want to learn and grow some excellent weed AFN will help you do that but kindness and respect are a two way streak. You have to give it to get it. That's karma baby:karmacloud:

What is rep and what is a slap, ok these are very good questions for the uninitiated!
Rep is short for reputation, you gain rep by doing good work and posting interesting stuff, if someone thinks it is worthy they will rep you.
I see everyone here has some rep so it shouldn't be so strange to realize what it means.
You can check who has repped you in your profile.
We usually then go to the person profile page who has repped us & say thank you, it is the nice and courteous thing to do!
A slap is what we call giving some one some rep, think of it as a slap on the back for a job well done.
People will often then use the rep slap sign:slap: to show they appreciate your work and that they have given you some rep!

I think you guys should be getting the idea what we are about by now.

If your still in doubt I'll spell it out for you, we want to help everyone grow the best weed possible and we will help you do that.
As a member of this forum you need treat everyone with respect and try to help them where you can and be friendly when you do.
Mutual respect plays a big part in our daily lives, respect us and we will respect you!

Sound good fellas?

Now is there any section you want to find? I will happily point you in that direction.
Let me also give you the Live Stoners link - https://www.autoflower.org/threads/new-live-stoners-gossip.54005/page-1663

If you want to find it manually then here is how -

I have Budmaster, GrowNorthern and Mars II 700, all in my tent at the moment.

Imo the GN is the best spectrum for veg.

It consistently produces plants of a uniform size at certain ages.

Budmaster is insanely overpriced for their smaller models like I have (XG4 190watts) however the option to upgrade with OD or GOD modules make it a decent option.

My GN would be even better if you could still buy the rebel upgrades. I find GN extremely frustrating on that front. They never stock old tech, and you have to wait looong for their new tech to drop each time. Fantastic lights though.

Mars does what it says in the tin. Cheap affordable (and very ugly/heavy) lights that do a decent job for what they are. In the right hands a Mars will produce like any other decent led imo.

I nearly had a KIND K3 recently, but there's just too much bad press and not enough evidence to justify their price for me.

Hi DarkGreen

GN great lights, what you say about the rebel units make me think you either have a MS004 or MS006.
Did you ever manage to get any of the Rebel upgrades for it?
I agree it is a real shame that Rebel upgrade aren't available any more as GN sold a ton of MS004/6.
The HS1 also seemed to do the biz and again it is a shame production didn't carry on until the release on the next light.
I know GN has run into a few hiccups over the past year but there is a light in the works but that is all I can say for now.

I here you on the Budmaster price, we don't see many of them due to the price but how do they perform? I t would be great to know!

Mars are a cheap and cheerful option but they do grow weed, only the other day, there was a few of us wondering how many OZ had been grow under Mars lights, they ship 10000 units a month! so we just decided it was a lot and that it probably went in to tons! lmao

We have a tester in the Cannazone test team who has received the latest offering from Kind the K5 XL1000 it is a 630W actual draw led.
They are pricey though! I can't wait to see how the X5 performs and see what a top dollar light can do!

Yeah I have a GN Ms0006 and I used to have a ms0004 which I sold.

One thing I will say with top end LEDs, they hold their value...

I never did get a rebel upgrade, and I really wanted 4! It annoyed me that they stopped supplying them. They should still be selling ms0004-0006 imo, I'd buy another ms0006 any time, very powerful, quiet, and amazing results.

I also had an HS1 which was a fantastic little light, really did do an amazing job, very very healthy spectrum and plants thank you for it.

But ....

75w for £350...as I said before they do hold their value though, so I managed to lose very little money at resale.

Cheers for the kind link, I'll be interested to see how they do, it's a very expensive light.

I mean if money is no object, I'd go the Osram Zelion route, but always interesting to see how technology stacks up against each other.

Yes I imagine Mars lights produce the most 'street' weed than any other LEDs.

Cheap, strong, and they do work.
