Great thread BigBuddha, i actually started LST'ing after reading this thread, i had done it before but i saw a lot more benefits the way you put it.
Cheers mate. Glad the LST love is spreadin. You obviously aren't frightened of doing it judging by your snaps so I'm glad that you're picking up the gauntlet again.

Well here's some pics of the lst i did on a royal dwarf, had some height restriction and wanted better light coverage. I started LST at around 4 weeks.
That's what I'm talking about. I love seeing them top-down like that. What's that.. about 25 top bud sites on her before we even dig into the bush? That's good going man. No way there'd be that many potentials getting direct light without her training. She looks lovely by the way. Very happy.

Out of interest.. have you got any plans to start training earlier than usual? I'll put up some snaps in my next post of an automatic that I started training after her 2nd nodes appeared and I'm observing some interesting changes in her growth as a result. I went on the principal that auxin redirection starts in the roots and wanted to see if it slows them down when early training is applied to the stem. So far that does seem to be the case but I'm hoping for it to pay off at the stretch when there's a bigger root mass. Of course I could be pissing into the wind here and it may make little or no difference.. but that takes all the fun out of it ;)

Cheers for your post man.

You'll see I've put the first bend below any internodes this time so all the auxin redirection should have been directed to the roots at that stage. So far it seems to be creating a fat stem early-on so that's good.

Here's some random LST shots from 3 other girls to further whet the appetites of any budding LST'ers out there:

And remember kids.. every time you LST a cannabis plant a fairy is born. ;)

nice bondage girls you got there Big Buddha

i like your thinking with the mylar divides and i think if you have side lighting it may well increase the amount of light getting to the lower/central nodes.
However i think if you have multiple plants they may have a negative effect by restricting the amount of light that can reach the 'quadrants' that are facing the center of the grow area.
Something for you to ponder on though... and i'm guessing you like to ponder these things:D

Merely borrowed from you mate.

I was thinking the same, so it would have to be a one-plant grow in its own tent. << Not such a bad thing for many of us.

Mate, that's the most diplomatic way anyone's ever pointed out my anal-retentiveness over stuff like this, and when you're right you're right so.. +1 :D

I've got an automatic in a 37ltr airpot that's just started her training so I'm already busy thinking through the mechanics of a divider now. You've also got me thinking of a multi-strain, one-pot grow, too. Clearly it can be done.

Anyway I can't hang around here and chat, Smokey, as I have to go off and design an Excel spreadsheet so that I can better organise the washing and ironing of my socks. Every anal-retentive dreams of it but I'm gonna reach out and make it happen :D

Cheers pal. :peace:

:crying:
I'm sure you can write a macro to help:D

Me likey  1 question, am I to believe that the main reason for LST is not to stress the plant but to get more light spread around? If that's true would things like side lighting and bottom-up reflectors have the same type effect or is there something else at play like uhh i dont know gravity or genetics telling the plant only the top bud is most important?

Hi smokeymount, welcome to the hub.

All of those questions you have are answered in the OP and subsequent posts.

First time grower, thanks for this thread! Because of space constraints I have had to experiment and LST was the first way I went also did some topping (mind you not on auto's). Haven't finished reading through the whole thread but some of the info is relavent for my next grows and current. +rep and sub'd to this one

Happy Growing!!
