Grow Mediums MassMom's Ongoing AutocCob, AutoPot, AutoFlower Adventure :-)

Comparing topping to transplanting is not a fair comparison. My only point on an auto is that they start showing sex from as early as day 12 up to day 21. On average. Giving the the most time to spread there roots in a big pot is the best practice in my opinion. I can turn my auto pots on at day 14 and they get rocking. Here is one of my tents

You posted that you should never tranplant an Auto. Ask Mitch how they grow. The breeders themselves transplant. I'm glad you can turn your Autopots on at day 14. No rule on that and for many people who grow in big pots, they over water from Day 1. Which slows root growth. Furthermore some people actually like to restrict roots to control the speed and size of the plant. As I stated before, there is no right or wrong when it comes to transplanting. It only matters what works best for you. But saying never to transplant... sorry, but never say never. For some it is a huge benefit.

Makes sense some use it to grow smaller plants. I guess it has its purpose.

Well, nothing new on the front. I am checking the riots daily (of course~ I am obsessive!!) but I dont really expect anything for days.Today I did add 2 drops of distilled water to each riot to keep them moist. As an experiment, I moistened a paper towel with warm distilled water and a little RAW Kelp and placed a Mepisto NCH seed on it, wrapped it up, put it in a ziplock back, and put it on my router for darkness and warmth. Once it shows its taproot I will plant it directly into a CowPot filled with Roots Organics and put it next to her sisters in the tent. I just want to see the difference between using/not using a root riot.

Hi MassMom — I’m originally from your neck of the woods myself, kinda wishing I was still there actually :headbang:. I’m subbed up! I’m thinking of doing Mephisto on my next grow, Ripley’s OG, looking forward to it. I’ll also be setting up Autopots for the first time. Fun stuff! Happy growing :greenthumb:

Hi DavisGirl!! Yep, Im from North Central Massachusetts. Autopots are so cool, I just wish we could turn them on starting day one, I am not a good
"water-er". :eek1:

Haha — the watering is going to be a huge challenge for me too. I’ve been without house plants for 20 years — killed em all. Overwatered half and forgot to water the others. People think hydro is hard but it honestly removes my biggest weakness from the equation. I have no plans to ever switch to soil, but if I do, it’ll be organic all the way.

Glad I found your grow!

@davisgirl and @MassMom Take it from Mr. Overwaterer here, the handwatering is a piece of cake with autopots. Precharge your medium, plant and day 5/500ml, day 10/750ml, day 15/1l, day 20/1.5l or till runoff and then you turn on rez. I try to water directly around the base of the plant to encourage the tap root to head south. @davisgirl set a reminder on your phone to open the tent every five days and give the ladies a drink. :smoking:

That’s the exact kind of instruction I need! Screen shoting this so I can find it again later. No need for the alarm hopefully, those are exciting times — I’ll probably be in there topping and LSTing and generally paying too much attention. I’m purposely not going to buy a moisture meter so I don’t shred the baby roots on the way to the tray.

Personally never had any luck with those. I think they are really for small pots around the house, if they work at all.

I use them and they work pretty well. I especially like them to check moisture in solo cups and the critical first 10 days. They are accurate too. You can see the accuracy actually. Put the probe in an inch and as you lower it down you can see the reading change exactly like it should. Put it in dry medium it reads dry. Put it in wet and it reads wet. But I think they can fail pretty easily so you have to watch that.
