Grow Mediums MassMom's Ongoing AutocCob, AutoPot, AutoFlower Adventure :-)

That is not true. Starting autos in solo cups rocks. @slowandeasy why dont you jump in here and add to the discussion.
Transplanting any plant is easy and for most new growers starting in cups is much easier for watering/over watering. I am not sure why people are afraid of transplanting? I have grown countless plants both ways. Directly planted reduces any transplant issues, for those who try to early. But It also allows for over watering, which can massively slow down a plant or even kill the seedlings. There is not a right or wrong. Whatever works best for you. Some people even prefer that Tiered method. Which is just rootbounding your plants and is worse than both of the above methods. To say NEVER transplant an Auto is silly. Just like topping is a no no ...Isn't there a Myth Buster's section?

Well, grab a smoke, pull up a chair, and coffee is in the back. Here we go again!!!!
I must admit, I am afraid of failing again, but the excitement is too great not to try.:smoking:

I moistened (2) Root Riots with warm distilled water, Real Growers Recharge and RAW kelp. I then squeezed them out until just moist, opened up the holes in the riots just a bit, and placed (2) Mephisto Northern Cheese Haze seeds in them about 12mm down.

I put the riots in a black seed germing cups and covered the holes with a little piece of the riot to keep the seeds in darkness. Tray went into a tupperware container, put in a plastic bag,and then put in my tent 2” under a 65W 6500k CFL. Lights are on and tent is 75 degrees.. lets see what happens. oh my.

Ive used split yogurt containers inside another container... then when its time to up pot, just slide the split container from the one its sitting inside of, remove the two halves and place roots in the new pot (after making a hole to place it in). It works IF all goes well and a piece of soil doesnt fall off and take a few delicate roots with it... So there is merit in the plant it and leave it approach..and the up pot approach to be fair, its just a matter of whether or not you want to risk slowing down your plants potentially in the name of a slight bit of convenience.. :) This next one I may place popped seeds into root riot cubes... Ill see how I feel when the time comes.
Hi Ron Paul, welcome! Yes, the debate in my head "transplant or not transplant" has been a big thing for me. I have come to the conclusing that personally I will HAVE to. I just cant get that small seed in big pot thing. I have used root riots in many grows and really like them because I can see the root action. I will be using cow pots in my next grow.....you just stick them down in the soil in the autopot....no transplanting.
Again, welcome!!

Sure did! And added them right to the rest of the pile of Mephisto gear I’ve acquired over the last year. I grow two plants at a time and now have 26 different strains on hand

I have a problem... I think I’m a meph head
LOL....i am addicted too.
You were right about getting the seeds fast. wowie!!!
To bad we all didnt live near each other and we could have a monthly meeting, smoke-athon, and seed swap!!!

The best part is Mephisto is constantly releasing new gear and it’s all top shelf. It’s so hard to say no whenever they have another drop :eyebrows:

The new strains they are releasing on 4/20 sound incredible. There should be some “tester” grows popping up on AFN soon to get us all excited. Last years testers for the 4/20 drop are actually what made me start buying Mephisto.

Sounds great. I decided to go to Mephisto after you lovely people recommended it. I have always gotten my seeds off a website (2nd or 3rd party) and lost A LOT of seeds. Lets see if I can get these little ladies to the glory they deserve. Fingers (and toes) crossed.

I WILL NOT OVER WATER, I WILL NOT OVER WATER

Now if I can get my hands on the Mephisto Amendment before they go into the autopots. Its like pulling teeth trying to get that stuff...its like gold! I went to my grow shop and got a big bag of Roots Organic original, so I am set there. If I cant get the amendment by the time they are ready for the autopots then I will just have to get Kind Soil, Living Soil or something off Amazon.....

Mom IMHO that is too much water on your root riots you will drown them.

..

You know I am going to remove that picture because it is rather misleading. Before adding the seeds I squeezed the riots till just moist and got rid of all excess liquid b4 I put the dish in the tent.

XOXOXO

Comparing topping to transplanting is not a fair comparison. My only point on an auto is that they start showing sex from as early as day 12 up to day 21. On average. Giving the the most time to spread there roots in a big pot is the best practice in my opinion. I can turn my auto pots on at day 14 and they get rocking. Here is one of my tents
