Grow Mediums MassMom's Ongoing AutocCob, AutoPot, AutoFlower Adventure :-)

Transplanting autos is a terrible idea. Start them in a root riot in the main pot. Easy and no messing around.

That is not true. Starting autos in solo cups rocks. @slowandeasy why dont you jump in here and add to the discussion.

:deadhorse:

The good old transplant or not debate.
I really think it’s a matter of preference. Many great growers on this forum transplant, and many do not. I personally start all my seeds in a solo cup and transplant around 7-10 days after sprout.

Topping was supposed to be a no no, and I do that too

I have run side by side comparisons one plant in main pot and another one transplanted and there was definitely a difference as the non transplanted plants were always bigger. So that is my take on it.

Mom + little seed + big pot = Disaster!:yoinks:

I think I am going to root riot them until I see roots coming out, then plant them into a 4" cowpot filled with roots organics. once they outgrow that the WHOLE cowpot will get planted in the autopot filled with Roots Organics and Mephisto amendment (If I ever get the darn stuff!!). the cow pots are supposed to break down fast as they are made of cow manure. Its more "Potting up" than a transplant. I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. Why not? cant be any worse than my last grow, LOL.
Prob wont get to it until this weekend as I have to work tonight and all day tomorrow....and still get to the grow shop. BUMMER!!!!

Hey @MassMom after talking you into some mephisto beans the other day and talking about the excitement of the surprise freebies they include I was feeling a little jealous... so i placed an order too for more seeds to add to my already way too big collection

Got the email today saying my order was packed and ready to ship, so I’m thinking yours must be as well :woohoo:
Hey @Tiny Bubbles did you get your seeds yet?

Ive used split yogurt containers inside another container... then when its time to up pot, just slide the split container from the one its sitting inside of, remove the two halves and place roots in the new pot (after making a hole to place it in). It works IF all goes well and a piece of soil doesnt fall off and take a few delicate roots with it... So there is merit in the plant it and leave it approach..and the up pot approach to be fair, its just a matter of whether or not you want to risk slowing down your plants potentially in the name of a slight bit of convenience.. :) This next one I may place popped seeds into root riot cubes... Ill see how I feel when the time comes.

Sure did! And added them right to the rest of the pile of Mephisto gear I’ve acquired over the last year. I grow two plants at a time and now have 26 different strains on hand

I have a problem... I think I’m a meph head
In your experience have you had any issues popping older seeds and how do you store them? :)

I store the seeds in an air tight container (jar) with a few desiccant packets in there (little silica packs that remove moisture) and in the basement where the temps don’t fluctuate a lot. I know some people keep them in the refrigerator. As far as popping old Mephisto beans my oldest pack is less than a year old. I just switched to autos from photos but I had some 2 year old photo beans I gave to a friend and the plants are growing now, matter of fact he just flipped them to flower last night.

There’s a good chance I play Johnny weed seed this summer and go around sticking a bunch of these seeds in my garden and friends gardens.
