High hope all is well i have got a magicalbutter machine for Christmas to make tinctures... my plants are a couple weeks away and I wonder if I can use the 8 hour tincture setting with mtc oil to infuse my herbs to make n effective tincture I currently buy a 1000mg tincture which helps treat my fibromyalgia of a lady n its says whole plant extract in mtc oil any help will be much appreciated as I don't want to waste my hard work with a useless infusion many thanks..:thanks:

Can't help but i'll follow! I'm trimming right now (actually joint break!) a CBD plant that was very generous in buds and frost.Only keeping the best looking buds to smoke and want to make oil later.
Is tincture and oil the same thing?

You just have to decarb the bud first. Then you can make a tincture with high proof grain alcohol, coconut oil, olive oil, etc etc. With the alcohol you would just have to evaporative it.

MBM's 2 cup minimum volume means that it is best used for large amounts of oil or tincture.
Less than 2 oz herb will produce a finished product with low concentration of THC.
I own two MBMs but rarely use them anymore.

Not straining out the herb will increase potency by 20-50%, meaning less herb is needed.

The simplest things you can make are whole herb pills, or whole herb treats such as cookies, brownies, chocolates, or spreads.
Each of these things has its plusses and minuses.

Here's a recipe for some test treats, which can be scaled up by any factor.
1. Decarb any amount of dry herb (at least 3 grams) by baking @ 240 F for 40 minutes in air with a verifying thermometer. There will be some weight loss during decarb. Decarb is far different in oil. (MBM's recommended 250 F for 30 min in air is also fine)
2. Grind to fine powder.
3. Mix together the following ingredients in the following proportions.
(2 g Decarbed Herb Powder) + (2 g Lecithin) + (28 g Something Oily) = (32 g)
4. Bake mixture for 40 min @ 220 F.

Each gram of mixture will have about 10 mg THC.
The "Something Oily" can be any nut butter, nutella, chocolate chips, etc.
Decarb and infusion are both very easy using Ardent Lift/Nova or FX. (Best MJ gizmos I own)

The oil used in any box mix recipe can also be infused using the above procedure.
Each gram of herb used will supply about 160 mg THC to the finished product for dosage calculations.
For example, if 2 g herb is used to make 16 cookies, then each cookie will have about 20 mg THC.

Here's a formula for some approximate 20 mg THC size 00 capsules.
(2 g DecarbedHerbPowder) + (2 g Lecithin) + (10 g Oil) = 16*(20 mg THC Pills)
Getting the gunk into the pills isn't fun and requires a fat candy dropper.

I often make same day as harvest edibles to test new herb by using the simplest method of nut butter spreads.

Here's how to fast dry the herb.
1. Harvest 5 times as much herb as needed.
2. Coarsely grind.
3. Weigh out a known amount, spread thinly onto a cookie sheet, then put under a furnace/ac vent for about 2 hours.
4. The herb is dry after it loses 80% of its wet weight, or when it stops losing significant weight.

Great write up and information. Have you ever tried starting with high quality hash? My plan is to use hash and high proof grain alcohol to make the tincture. Then, slowly evaporate the alcohol out, leaving me with hash oil. Seen quite a few people use that method

Thanks for the information:cheers: really appreciated. Ideally I want to make a tincture I find them more easier to does n more fast acting n practical for my condition .. I pretty confident there's at least 3/4 of an oz a plant dry so will have 80 grams of dry herbs to infuse into the mtc oil I have been making small batches of canna caps n edibles for a while ...but after making bigger batches in the mbm2 of mtc tincture

There are a couple problems with infusing into oil, and then straining to produce medicated oil.
First, unless you make a very weak oil, the oil won't be able to hold all the cannabinoids.
Second, there will always be a small amount of oil remaining in the strained out gunk.
Ardent Cannabis, maker of decarb devices, has experimented with oil infusions, and got 90% infusing 1 g into 30 mL oil.
That's very weak oil, and the best efficiency I've seen on more concentrated oils is 80%.
Typical infusions are about 50-70% efficient, according to a High Times study done a few years ago.

There are three ways to get everything.
1. Don't strain, and make whole herb pills of the right size to make dosing easy.
I make mine at about 20% of the dose size I need, and have to take 5 of them. Much stronger, and it's nearly impossible to get stuff into caps.
2. Use 190 proof alcohol, strain, evaporate off the alcohol, then add some oil and lecithin to make an oil tincture.
I can get the number of pills needed down to 1 or 2 doing this.
3. Use the strained out sludge for something else, because it will still have some potency.

If you decide to use alcohol, it will be expensive without a way to reclaim it.
If you use alcohol in MBM, don't exceed 130 F, or the alcohol will eventually evaporate off.
I've had an MBM go completely dry using 160 F and alcohol.

So is what your saying make feco n infuse that into the mtc oil for best results? How much would 80 grams yield into feco ? N what alcohol is best to use cant find everclear in UK. Many thanks :toke::vibes:

Best result depends on how easy it is to get herb.
If you have so much you don't know what to do with it all, then even an easily made 50% efficient strained oil will be fine.

I'm in US and can get (expensive) everclear, but any brand that's 190 proof is fine.
190 proof still contains 5% water that complicates things, so using any less concentrated alcohol is something I avoid.

Making FECO, decarbing, then infusing it into oil with lecithin wastes very little herb if long soaks are used.
Simplest is to keep track of herb used, then assume it's about 16% THC.

For example, I make an oil tincture that uses 15 grams flower to fill a 30 mL tincture bottle.
THC = (15,000 mg Flower)*(0.16) = 2400 mg
Concentration = (2400 mg THC)/(30 mL) = 80 mg THC/mL
1 mL ~ 30 drops, so 1 drop ~ 2.5 mg THC

But this is a lot harder than just making whole herb caps in a convenient size.
For example, my wife and I sometimes use whole herb capsules for sleep.
I make them the exact strength so that she takes two, and I take five.
