Grow Room Micro Auto Adventures with Mr. Sparkle

Update: to counter the above post

Things did Not go well for Bogan when i was away, somehow the Arduino that controls this box had the programming lock solid with it reading 10:46am and not being able to take soil readings, and it looks like it would of happened not long after i left, i have a guess at what happened but wont know till it happens again. So i came home too a crispy mess of the mothers and some struggling clones and Bahia Blackhead seedlings. The mothers are a loss, but ill have a clone of the Lemon Kush and two of the Cherry Bomb which isn't bad, even though the C99 was the one i liked most, so we will have to try out some of those C99 x Dark Devil Crosses as im out of straight C99 seeds.

So Shit happens, but time to move on, here's two pictures one of the crispy mess, and the cleaned up box, the one Bahia Blackhead is struggling more than the others but i expect it to recover, Also all the Bahia Blackheads i for some reason labeled as ak48's which they aren't, so they got corrected.

As for Ashla she did well, a couple of the plants were a bit too dry compared to the others but i expected that to possibly happen and believe i even mentioned that in my last update or so, The Dark Devil is filling out Nicely under the 12/12 but we will have to wait and see the end results though, as for the AK48's they scavenged a bit of their bottom leaves which isn't an issue with a dense canopy also looks like they would like a touch more nitrogen, but i'm gonna run as is for awhile, as i know they wont need as much after stretch, Also of the 6 seedlings all of them are female, was hoping for a couple males so i could free up space for the Bahia Blackheads, but i'm not complaining ;)

sucks but hopefully they recover for ya! you must of got all my females lol ive been having horrible female/male ratios lately :crying::pass:

Thanks everyone, I'm actually not really bothered too much by what happened, sure it sucks but things happen sometimes, but i have a nice jar of the C99 curing right now which will last me a long time. The bonuses of it, is it gives me an excuse to try other C99's if i want and brothers grimm are now back making seeds again too, it also clears out Bogan for a bit, i was originally planning on running those clones once they rooted to see if i really wanted to keep the Cherry Bomb and Lemon Kush around, so i might just continue with that train of action once there is room is Ashla.

Or i may just flip bogan to a 12/12 cycle when the plants are ready, and then move them over to ashla when there is some space. Doing that will leave the other case empty for new things, or maybe a yield run, it will all work out in the end.

Happy New Year BTW, and here is to new things and successful or grows in 2017 or at least grows where we learn something ;)

It sucks that it happened to you, mate. Frustrating to think that the arduino malfunctioned right when you were away. But I have no doubt it is just a minor set back and that your boxes will be tiny little jungles again in no time. Keep it up, mate! :greenthumb:

Thanks JDoe, yeah they will be over stuffed again shortly, which sure doesn't take long in a micro environment.

So i may have a solution to my issue which has only happened a couple times, and would act as a safeguard for other random issues, but It was suggested to me by another member on another forum to look into the coding for watchdog circuit for the arduino, it causes the arduino to more or less look for a heartbeat or an operational reset signal, that resets a timer periodically "up to 8sec without added circuitry", but if it doesn't get the reset signal, it resets the whole arduino, so in my case when it does potentially lock up the timer will run out and it will just reboot the arduino, looks like it should be somewhat easy to implement too, as its already built in to most arduinos. So ill have to play around with it and try to implement it.

Always learning.

Also on that note, i threw 4 Dark Devil seeds in some water yesterday, two of the shorter one from last run and two of the taller sativa leaning ones, so we will see how much difference is between them and if they carried over the majority of their mother plants traits. They will be running in my larger 800ml pots, which bogan fits 6 of with space, 8 if they're jammed in there.

But the plan is to run 4 bigger dark devils in 800ml pots, and then in a couple weeks when the Bahia Blakheads and Clones get moved to Ashla i'm gonna run through 4 of the C99 x Dark Devil cross in the 400ml pots, reason being is they are only half auto, so the ones that turn out to not be autos will get moved over to Ashla later on and the ones that are will stay, but its a crap shoot really for what may happen, thus i'll run the smaller pots as they are easy to handle and take up less space.

Weekly Update:

Bogan: Has come back around, and will be good shortly, also just put 4 Dark Devil seeds from that last run into mix today they have all popped tails, and you know the plan now witht he post above with what were gonna do.

Ashla: Is doing well, have some very minor root rot on some plants, but that's cause the box has been running a bit wet, as i haven't adjusted it yet and wanted to see how it would do running a bit wetter. The AK48's are all looking nice, i'm not expecting them to bulk out crazy like with their current structure but we will see as its still early, and the Dark Devil is filling out, definitely less that if had a 18/6 schedule but that is expected, but we will see with the end result shortly the actual difference, looking and smelling good though.

Weekly Update:

Bogan is moving along, the Lemon Kush And Cherry Bomb Clone's are now pretty good, could even throw them over to the other box shortly if i had room. The Dark Devil Seedling have been above ground for about half a week now. Just moving along.

Ashla, the AK48's are done their stretch at 3 weeks of flower now and are starting to throw on buds, had one picked out "[HASHTAG]#5[/HASHTAG]" that i liked the smell on initially, but currently i can't smell a thing, so im gonna have to wait till i can to retest to see which ones i like, also moved over the two remaining Bahia Blackheads, they will both be female, as they have pre-flowers, i threw them somewhat into the center just cause they will receive a tad more light which will help reduce a little bit of the stretch that will occur in the next three weeks. Also Slightly trimmed the lowers of the ak48's to remove the shoots that will just become useless stuff once done, but left enough behind to reveg if needed. Also i very tiny bit of tip burn, so i may dial back the nutes a tad in the future.

Also i changed the tray to be flat again instead of angled, and located the soil sensor in the furthest plant away from the dump tube, with this change the plants are being more evenly watered in compared to how it was running, im gonna maybe change Bogan to do the same, the short frequent watering cycle is allowing it to work better this way, then a longer less frequent tilted tray watering cycle, only issue is the plants stay a tad wetter which can cause some root rot, bacteria issues, if i don't keep up on adding a sterilizer to my rez's once a week, vs just doing it every rez change.

Also will be harvesting this Dark Devil shortly, not as much yield as if i ran it under 18/6 but still a respectable little plant. It was topped a week or two after being moved over to Ashla, just for references, as it grew too tall as it got crowded out.

I registered to forum just for this thread. Amazingly clean work, Mr. Sparkle! :nicethread::nicethread:

Would you mind giving detailed pictures of Ashla and Bogan in the future?

Thanks TrueSight, as for detailed pics what would you like to see, ill grab some shots of whatever you'd like to see, or ill post pics that i have already taken in the past but they may not be included in this thread.
