Dear COB experts,

could you please be so kind and tell me whether there are negative consequences if I dimm the Mean Well HBG-60 Driver to a very low level? I am asking because some Mean Well drivers (HLG-320H-C1400B) are not allowed to be dimmed below a certain level (Note : 1. Min. dimming level is about 6% and the output current is not defined when 0%< Iout<6%.)

I am using the TGL STAR 100 light - CXB 3590 COB (please see the specs below) and I dimmed it down to 10W (initial wattage was 105W). I cannot find any info whether dimming the Mean Well HBG-60 Driver to such a low level is problematic or not. I am really not LED savvy and would really appreciate your advice.
Many thanks in advance:pass:

I'm no expert but I do know you need a dimmable driver to be able to dim the LEDs. I would think the driver would work to a certain percentage of voltage then would turn the lights off below that point. Shouldn't harm the driver or led chip as it would be working as designed. The point at which I think your worried about would be the point the lights shut off. I'm no electronics expert but do know a bit about electricity. Never ran into a led fixture that had a bad driver due to dimming it to low. With 105 initial watts, 10 watts would be about 8%. So with the driver being able to dim down to 6% initial output you should be able to dim it a bit more. I would guess anything below 6% the light would just shut off. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate:thumbsup:

You won't have any problem dimming any MeanWell driver as low as it can go. In fact, it'll run cooler and your COB will be cooler and more efficient. You can dim an HLG-320H (and bigger) down to 10%, then it'll turn off if you turn the dimmer lower than that. The HLG-240H (and smaller) only go down to 10%, you can't turn them off with the dimmer.

Many thanks for the info. However, I forgot to mention that my Mean Well HBG-60 does not have a built-in dimmer, so I soldered a potentiometer in order to dimm it. Do you think it is still safe to run it at 10 Watts?

Yeah, that'll be fine
