New Grower MoonMan's Grow Journal

Cindy XX and G13 Genius in the dirt
I used mainly seedling soil from coast of Maine. I had a tiny bit of the regular soil left in one bag and the bottom 15% of each pot has that I would estimate. More perlite mixed in as well.

this veg is 2 MONTHS long. As required by breeder. So we are gonna mess with spectrum, sunrise and sunset etc... all the stuff this kale is made to do. I plan to keep them as small as I can until they are flipped to flower. Will do 18/6 once they pop and probably 80% or so blue.
edit: I have plant risers coming from a friend with lots of extras, so these plants will be lifted soon as well. I won’t be watering for a while as mist only to start

Trouble in paradise
So, had some issues the last day and got them figured out today and am ready to discuss. Day 27 on autos. Day 2-3 on sprouts

First the veg tent. The sprouts were not looking right and I couldn’t get the temp up. Well when I set the light changes, I didn’t “ramp up” and add two more steps. So it just sat at 3% output for two days!! Temps were barley 70 degrees. Well was looking closer today and realized it. Got it back set for 60% and have the time it goes off, set to the same time period as the big tent now. Temps are back up about 80.

photos are from a few hours after change already looking better

The big tent heat was low and leaves were drooping. Getting this other tent back up has also raised the heat in the room and the tent is back up around 80-81 where it was 74-76 the last few days.

A secondary reason for this issue was the exhaust was running constantly to keep the humidity down. I’ve added a small humidifier to the tent to help it run less. I might add a second later in flower if I can’t keep the humidity 50% or lower.

I did a big defoliation today as they are stretching and getting into the net, it will be much harder in the future. They should be good for another few weeks and I will prob defoliate one more time around day 21 of flower.

I’m hoping to see a big change in the droop and water consumption with the heat and humidity better under control :pop:

Day 49
I have cut back my feeding as it was too much, now I’m doing about 60-70% of recommended dosing and not adding tons of extras everytime, maybe slight boosts every other water. I’ve done a few straight water feedings too. There was some lockout/nute burn starting and it seems to have stopped. Will keep and eye on it and keeping using lower doses.

Day 24
So transplant seems to have worked, have good new growth.

Took off some of the lowest leaves the other day, the a bunch more today. The huge ones just create weird branches and crazy stretched fans.

I will maybe top once, would do it maybe Tuesday so they can recover from this defoliation.

I changed light to 65% blue and 80% intensity, slowly working to a 50/50 and 100% about a month left in this tent.

Oh! I also have a snail and a spider. It’s eating my plant but slow and small I don’t care. Letting him live. Spider, if surviving is earning its keep as well I’d assume

G13 is the fatter girl and the Cindy is the one standing tall. Big stalks on both so far.

Day 52
Defoliate and water day. No nutes cruising on water for a few to slow flush any nute issues out. Will feed this weekend lightly again.

Haven’t cut a branch off any of these, well I think 2-3 very small lower ones have come off during the trim ups, but basically letting them do their thing as far as that goes.

Couple of photos

63
Some shots from day 63. Didn’t take two out of the tent while I was moving things around so didn’t get shots of them all. I lowered the lights a few inches. Closest ones are 15inches the shortest are 31 or so. Should prob put risers on buckets or something to keep it even but... next time.
