I'm trying an experiment with it that I feel I should be transparent about. I removed the bottom most shoots that would not be getting any light and wasting energy. Fan leaves were left on however. I was worried about letting people know about this because of the emotional response people have to pruning autos.
Like I said this is an experiment we can all follow. I will be trimming more shoots that don't make it to the top and get stretchy as they appear. Fan leaves will be left alone. Many people say to trim it once after the stretch is over but I think that would cause stress to the plant.
I don't get to consume my flowers as much as I used to so I only want the tops. I have no use for larf, I don't make edibles and I don't make hash. I look forward to sharing my experience with anyone who finds the thread!

..but i would love to see how the experiment turns old...Switched to HPS today. Not happy with new digital timer. Failed to turn on unit this morning. Maybe I bumped something when I plugged it in last night. It was the same timer my CFL was on and everything up until now has been great. Hopefully it was just a glitch.
Bud sites are rapidly appearing now. I am not going to do any trimming until next week. Don't want to screw up and clip off something that would have been a good producer.

Frustration and disappointment. Set the alarm for 4 AM to make sure the light was on. It was not. Plugged it in directly to power outlet and light would still not fire. Brand new revolt ballast, brand new everything. The ballast is making two or three small high pitched squeaks, like a computer fan. Then nothing else is heard. Contacted the supplier hopefully this will be resolved. Until then I am back to my LED. I am so over LED after using this HPS, I hate the purple glow it gives off, pain in the ass to take it down and then hook up CFL for taking pics. What a start to the day 
The day got much better! If anyone ever see's Gotham Hydroponics in their travels on Ebay or Amazon don't hesitate! They are testing me a new light and ballast AND including a return shipping label for me for the non-working ballast to be sent back! Super impressed!

Got an email from Gotham today and the new ballast for the HPS is on it's way. Until then this is the best I can do. My CFL is big and bulky and glass (like all other ones), so I'm not moving it around

I know they suck but its just a hiccup, there will be better ones when I get the HPS up and running.
I have picked a few more bottom buds off. I really am not having a problem doing this at all. It's really obvious who is too far south on the branch to be of any use. No remorse haha!
