New Grower Need advice on photo plants

Just like robo added... when you flip to 12/12 they will stretch, so i would go the first two weeks of flower. Then knock everything off that is not making it threw the scrog. You don't want anything below that scrog line to flower, cause they will take away energy that the top buds could be using.

Here is a pic of my old scrog grow, just for a reference, see everything under the scrog net is gone

THis is about a week from Chop just for reference,

HOLY SHYTE, yeah dude switch those things ASAP to 12/12 I guess I missed that. Two things:

1) You are gonna have some Monsters!

2) Since they got that big in Veg you will most likely run into lighting/space/heat issues later on in the flowering cycle. As stated above the plants get a LOT bigger during the next month or so, some plants get bigger in different ways(as you are experiening now, that is why I always grow one strain at a time and even then with differnt phenos you can get a mix of tall and short) if you cant tie the Cheese plant down any more then I would say leave the screen. Also I would check out Tang's AutoX grow and look at the pics just before harvest, he has literally every branch and bud tied to his sidewalls. It might give you some ideas for later on. I think you are in for a big surprise as to how much taller they can get even through a scrog!

LOL yea, them are big containers he has, they are gonna blow right threw that scrog net, He gonna have some huge colas in that small space. One of them plants would fill out that scrog

Exactly what I thought! Those are some super bushes!

After looking at them again, you can see how the lower leaves arent getting enough light and starting to turn yellow, that is why I am a fan of LSTing because you can literally tie up the branches and maximize the light that each branch gets. The reason most people trim away the lower portions of the scrog is because those parts of the plants dont get enough light and become popcornish. I personally try from the very begining to LST them in a way that each and every branch is getting max lighting. Now of course by harvest time I look like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible trying to dodge the laser beams of twine that I have connected to every possible place in my grow space, but that is a different issue all together. Just my own theory though. I have found that there are many ways to skin a cat and if enough time is spent fine tuning whatever method I have seen monster yeilds of top quality nuggage.

Thanks everybody. I definitely want to take clones of this purple haze plant. I dont have any other phenos to compare it to, but it just has such a nice structure to work with. Had I known just how it would of grown, I would have only grown the one plant.

Lol I didn't know just HOW MUCH photo plants stretched in flower... I thought they would get maybe a foot taller at most. I'm so used to my smaller autos that, in my experience, hardly stretch once flowering is in full swing.

Hoping I can get an even forest of colas, even if they're tall. My tent is 7 feet tall, so I don't imagine they'd outgrow that... hopefully?!

This is exciting as shit. Thanks for the compliments and tips guys.

That is always the tricky thing is not knowing how a plant will grow, if I were in your situation I would remove the scrog net and LST/BUD tie as much as possible if you have the vertical height to spare then your horizontal growth is already going to max out, so in the interest of yeild I would try and get em to strech as much as possible because that is where you have the space. The plants are going to grow to the space that is given them. With photo plants you have the ability to control how big they get by how long you veg them(more or less) so at this point your plants have probably grown as Wide as they are going to, now try and maximze the vertical space you have.

Again this is just my thoughts based on the pictures you provided, I dont know what your lighting and temps are so that plays a big part in things as well. Can you raise and lower your lights?

Thanks Anasazi! Do you have a journal for those plants I can check out?

By my count, it's been approx 40 days since I soaked the seeds. Yeah, my space is gonna be packed (too packed?). I just hope I can use the scrog net to keep it even as possible. Vertical space is not an issue, but I only have so much horizontal real estate.

That's why I'm wondering if I should thin anything out... and if so, how. I've watched videos and read articles but it's overwhelming, and these plants don't wanna wait. That's why I'm just waiting for a photo pro to drop by and take a theoretical crack at it.

Yea it's linked in my sig.

Man you are making me feel like my 2 gal airpots suck. I thought they looked so big though. Maybe I should get a 5 Gal one.

Here's an overview of my equipment:

- 2.5' x 2' x 7' tent
- 400 cfm inline filter/fan combo
- Intake air comes through a screened port in the back that sits just above soil level.
- 300-380 actual watt LED panel with 5 watt chips.
- 4x 45 watt CFL's. I use them for viewing plants, and some pictures. Sometimes I'll use them to help warm up the tent. Maybe I'll use them in flower this time too?
- 7 gallon Smart Pots filled with a mix of Fox Farms Cocoloco (35%), Dr. Earth 808 (5%), and perlite (60%). Sounds crazy with so much perlite, but it's worked great before!
- Small oscillating tower fan placed near intake vent to help force fresh air around. Small fan pointed up near door to keep that air space from becoming stale. I'll probably need something for above the screen too, to blow on the flowers.

Here's how my tent runs:

Intake temps: 73-75 F day, 69-72 night.
Top of canopy: 75-81 F day, 69-72 night.
Humidity: 50-70%, usually right at 60%

I have no heat issues atm. I think my 400 cfm fan is overkill in my tent. When I sleep, I turn it down to minimum speed, which still keeps good temperature. I turn it to max while awake and it holds a very constant temperature.

I can raise and lower my lights easily enough. From where my panel currently hangs, I can raise it by almost another 2 ft before I hit the filter.

What's up AFN!

I've got two photo sensitive strains going now (ran out of auto seeds), and it's a whole new learning process coming from autos. They're getting huge, and I'm gearing up to switch to 12/12. I'm also trying my hand at scrog technique. I'm looking for any and all advice, as it seems thee's major potential with these plants.

You can see that they're popping up through the screen now. The purple haze on the right responded to FIM cut technique perfectly and hardly needs a screen for an even canopy. The cheese plant's main stalk just wont quit. I let both plants veg out longer so some of the other branches could approach the screen. Other than both being FIM'd once, I haven't used any other cutting/training techniques, or trimmed anything but dead shade leaves.
I repotted them about 10 days ago, from 3 gallon to 7 gallon smart pots.

I'm just looking for general guidance here. If these were your plants, what would you do?

Do they need their undersides thinned out? Have I let them veg too much for my space? Etc, etc.

Any tips, tricks, ideas, criticism, etc is welcome. I need AFN's help, again, to grow some awesome buds.

Thanks!

Sup frog, only read the first few post on ur jornal, imma go back and read thewhole thing here in a min, just wanted to let you know them plants look beautiful and healthy. I remember purple haze was this s*** years ago around my neighborhood I never got to actually see a grow journal I'm excited to keep up with this best of luck, hope them pretty girls of yours can yield u 10 pounds my brother

Derp, I missed your sig (Tapatalk). I actually want to go back to airpots. It's gotta be sooo much easier to transplant than bag style pots. Felt like I was ripping my roots apart. Actually got rather upset for a day, thinking I had hurt them... then they just bounced back. Tough plants.

But really, I think I'm just lucky this time around. Just went back to the only mix I've liked, and went with huge pots.
