Grow Mediums New guy with AutoPot questions. Please, come inside.

I am a newbie (when it comes to Autopots), this is my first grow with them....

But, If I was asked what is the most important bit of knowledge I have learnt or what advice to pass on to other new Autopot users.....

It has to be..... "Get a Bigger Tent" or "Reduce the number if plants you normally grow".

Autopots Rock.... When they take off, the growth is amazing, the stretch & spread is almost beyond comprehension.

And.... you can also run "Lighter Nutrient Levels" as the plants drink lots more.....

So.... my advice (given with the best intentions).... think ahead, or you will run out of space sooner than you think.
:frog:

@Joe2 Uhhhh.... Just to emphasise.... when I say "run out of space"....

5 x Auto's 32 days old (avg canopy height to date 4'-8"), in a 4ft x 4ft x 6ft tent... all in autopots

Two too many!

Just saying.... trying to be helpful..

I might do my first grow with 4 plants just to see what happens....then hook up the other 2 pots on the 2nd run. Aint gonna be long now :cooldance:

Hi, could you please elaborate on why this is too many plants, what detrimental issues are you seeing?
thank you!

Sure.......... Pure & Simple..... not enough room to stretch (width wise) I could fill the tent with 3 plants the way these autopots grow... (maybe even just 2).

The light is hitting a dense canopy, I like more light penetration... Normal growth, in standard pots the tent will take 4 OK.... I had an extra unexpected plant, so ended up with 5....

The growth with Autopots is insane, much more than standard grows, I am seriously looking at moving at least 2 of mine, to a separate location.

ok cool - reason i asked as i will attempt to grow 4 plants in a 2.5ft by 2.5ft space, will allow me to grow more strains at once but maybe i will not achieve the greatest yield, but im not too concerned about yield
thanks!

Im with Frogster, have just done 3 in a 2.5 x 3 ft cabinet and that was one to many. Had a great yield but I reckon it would have been better with just two, they go nuts in Autopots....
Have a look at the one that 2stoned2care did! it filled a 2 x 2 on its own lol

The trouble is.... when you overcrowd it causes more problems than you think......

Outside the obvious, "lack of room to LST or train plants effectively", take a deeper look and consider the following:-
  1. Uneven tent temps due to restricted air movement (up to 10 degs off, from top to bottom of tent)
  2. Wide Humidity swings, with fluctuations as above (as temp drops RH goes up..... and so on....)
  3. Mould problems due to temp/RH fluctuations outside the norm
  4. Steam and leaf deformation
  5. Exaggerated fluctuations in Temp & RH from normal, as night & day settings are already different - the fluctuations are bigger.
  6. Cold roots
  7. Slow uptake of nutrients
  8. Lockouts
  9. Bud Rot
  10. Root Rot
If lucky.... you may get away with just a reduced yield (unlikely)

So I would consider it, why cause yourself problems?

Just my take on it :size:
