I've spent a lot of time on http://skunkpharmresearch.com/ lately. A truly top notch site with articles based on science, by professionals. I decided to try their test method for making a batch of oil. Now, I've seen other post where they cook a while then cool, then cook again, etc. It didn't make sense to me so I've done just straight cooking for x hours and thats it.

What you see in my jar is probably close to 2 ounces of pre-dried bud and trim, from all the various plants I grew this summer. Close to an ounce of bud alone, ( you can tell by the seeds that escaped me...lol! ) I put it in the Mason Jar, then filled it with olive oil, letting it soak into the plant matter for a bit and adding more, then shaking it to get the oil quickly thru the canna. When it was soaked, I added enough oil to bring ot about an inch above the plant matter.

I scored a double boiler at an auction a while back, and I like it much better than my crockpot for cooking oil, you've got much better temp control, and you can't burn your oil.

I boiled the water in both pans, placed the top pan on the base pan, and put the jar in the top. As per skunkpharmresearch, I tighten the lid a bit, but not tightly and cooked it for 6 hours. I occasionally shook or stirred it.

After 6 hours I let it cool on the counter, then placed it in the fridge for the night.

This morning, I slowly warmed it, then placed it in the double boiler again for 2 hours. Took it out and let it cool. It is now boiling again, for the last, 6 hour session. I'm thinking this should be some decently potent oil....we'll see! :Medibles:

Interested to see the outcome, pop! Do you ever use coconut oil? I just picked up a 7kg bucket of it, and have a dozen or so runs to do in the next couple weeks.. That last pic looks like a good batch of Jamaican jerk sauce! lolol

I Love coconut oil! Just am out of it and no $$$ to get any with till next month lol. Coconut oil is better for capsules, but we cook with oil too and the olive oil is better for some thing. Next batch will be coconut oil again. I'm thinking that when certain friend get a sample of this oil, it won't last long...LOL!

Ot will be done tonight. I'll prbably make a few caps and test it out tomorrow. Wish I had a potato ricer! Going to buying one soonm looks like a great way to press the oil out of the plant matter. I took 2 cans, one slightly smaller than the other. I drilled several large holes in the bottom of the larger can. 2 coffee filter make the second can a snug fit into the first one. that will be my "pot press"... I hate wasting oil....lol!

I've never used olive oil, just coconut, and I do butter runs, by request. So, you just use the olive oil for cooking and salad type stuff? Now, I'm really intrigued! Bistro steaks ala canaolive... Mmmmmmm!
A potato ricer!! I just saw one at a swap meet for $1... What a great idea. I use the "how hard can I squeeze these sieves together" method.. to my own chagrin. lolol

Great write up pop.
I like SKR a lot. I refer to their site often.
I must have a physiological conversion issue metabolizing edibles though, as though just do not effect me the way they do others.
I mean serious recreational stoners locked down on the couch or chair and me wondering when the fun will start.
Even double their doses.

I have had people try to say "oh it's more subtle than smoking". Now, I may be a bear, but I know when I am high.

Let us know how you rate the end product!

Its great in stirfry!

Not too long ago I took a half oz of BHO and put it into a Litre(or whatever the normal size veg oil is) and it was the most potent thing I have ever eaten when making anything that called for Vegatable oil. This looks awesome though I am interested to see how it turns out

pop, have you ever done a water cure on your material before making the oil? I started doing that a couple years ago and the results were so good I now do it every time. The water cure removes all the chlorophyll and the result is oil with virtually no taste at all. Bubble bags work great for filtering it. The fine grade ones will catch a lot of the small veg material and the result is a much clearer oil. Plus they are easy to squeeze the oil out of.

Thanks Muddy! Those are both great ideas! Next time I'll try the water cure, and bubble bags are coming in the near future. If my grow issues are sorted out now, I'm hoping to grow enough for some hash as well as the meds! I'm just drooling thinking about smoking some hash! A few years ago.. ( QUITE a few...lol ) I would buy hash any day before buying weed!
