as far as the perlite goes, as far as IIIIIII know, miracle grow perlite does indeed have some slow release nutes in it so I would stay away from it if you can. I have and love this - nice and chunky

for pH meteres, I have this one but if you're growing in soil, I would recommend this one.

99% of inexpensively priced pH meteres are crap, so the rapitest meter probably shouldn't be your first choice.
HOWEVER lol rapitest does make a soil pH kit. It's a royal PITA, and it's only as reliable as your eyes- cause there's a lot of guesswork, but if you're on a budget, I think that the rapitest pH test kit or some pH strips (like for a pool) will be your best bet.

I just got one of these , $80 Australian dollars , compared to what I had i can't believe the difference , the other one must have come from the stone age .

Man, when I first signed up, a complete and utter noob, I was asking questions about equipment, and the A8 was the first, 2nd, and 3rd piece of equipment that I was recommended to get!!
