Lighting No money, no common sense, no problem

Reps Pudd,

So I have been looking at the 1212 since smo mentioned them in the chna light thread. I asked for a link to the build he referenced as cheap $100 cob build. but i dont think it is a diy on here. So what do you find better the 100w or 50w driven 1212 cobs? can you advise what drivers you chose, @ 50w do you run these passively?

This is my favorite thread on all of afn. Now to see such nice buds in there makes it even better. Not ready for xmas but it looks like it's well worth the wait.
actually, I had two small colas that w3ere damaged (cough) and had to be removed for hygiene (cough). As it would turn out they were just ready in time to be smoked Christmas Eve. Not even close to any sort of maturity, and without proper dry and cure, it still ripped my head off. I wont touch the GSC until it has had a proper dry and at least 3 weeks of cure. It looks to be a heavy producer with training.

I am running mine with cheap chinese drivers. They get the job done but i suspect the life will be short. I would rather see 2 1212 chips on a 100w driver in series if I was starting out with it. You can get two chips for under $30 with the holder, another 2 arctic freezer coolers for $18, and a 100w chinese driver for $11 if you can wait a month. That's two good lights up and running for less than $60. Now the down side of this is the wiring and allot of small problems you will have to address in the build.

One thing for sure. Cob is a powerful solution for heavy growth. There are a few single cob lights that are showing up around here. You might look into that as it would allow you to expand as time and space dictates. It would also be easy to move around the tent.

If your ready to start a build I'm happy to assist. Especially a conversion. Get rid of those blurple panels and adding in some cobs is a great improvement for little money. 1212's at 50w have much higher efficiency than at 100w

Just looking to find all the options, definitely ready to start sourcing parts.

I am man enough to admit that I am a bit envious of your buds :p
Thanks man. It's been a challenge to make an adjustment to how I think. The whole cob thing came out of a pressing need for higher intensity light without any money. I have pretty much stayed in those bounds. And it looks like the next run is setting up to be even better. Wish I had picked up some Mephisto back in the Fall but 2 Northern Lights are what is next up on deck. May plant a third of Hash Plant if I can find the seeds.

I think the real tale of the tape will be what the finished product turns out as. Since this is for me personally I am mostly interested in growing a superior product to what I would have available to me in my local community. The supply chain here is rather sparse but DIY has taken care of that.

Get a thread going man. 12 dollar cobs or 44 dollar cobs. I like to go in the middle and the rest is easy.
