Hey i am deciding to grow 1 auto at a time and which strains can you guys reccomend which dont smell much and stay pretty short? Also is an extractor and a carbon filter absolute neccesary? I have a little air vent which lets little bits of air that is all and a window to open every now and then few times a day to let new air in. Would this be enough? Thanks!

From what i understand it smells regaurdless. NL and Kaya 47 i heard have very little smell. if you are hiding this fron someone in your house then YES you need a filter but even then carbon filter can sometimes let smells leak. read vapors oder post i think its in the new growers section very good info. im sure one of the big brothers will hop on here and give you more info. hey guys lets start a list of the least smelling plants for all the new steath growers out there!

carbon filters do get rid of smell more then anything but if you leave you grow area open to long or theres a hole some where a carbon filter cant do its job any any air thats escaping so if your area isnt air tight and you dont hav a backup on odor controll you might have some leaks and some looks like "whats that wonderful smell"

hehe i guess guys but i have no idea where i could install an extractor or a carbon filtr. The only thing i have in my room is an airvent and a window lol

If you read a strain has low odor, you could still get a stinky pheno. I suggest if odor concerns you take real measures from the start.

:peace:

I've pretty much grown'em all kinda like several others here. I grew inside with a carbon filter exhausting out thru an "air vent"....
some strains still emit an odor regarless...ya gotta take'em out of their tent or sumpin sometimes....NL is one with low odor but walking by it, ya still catch a nice wiff.
Think...a quality extractor should be able to exhause back into ya room. Use ono or similar to help...bachelors can leave a couple dirty dishes in tha sink.

I chose Auto Seed's Auto #1 for my 1st grow partly on the basis of their claims of low odor and short stature.
It sounds like you're either going to have a heat/ventilation problem or not enough light if I had to guess. If you only "have a little air vent which lets little bits of air that is all" then you won't have much light, as even the coolest lights emit some heat and will quickly heat up a small poorly ventilated space. You need at least some consistent ventilation to run lights and for the plant if you want decent results in my opinion.

Also consider an ozone generator (~ $50 on Ebay). I haven't used one personally but I have researched them in preparation to purchase one myself. They seem to be a good solution for many people, and have a great deal of mostly positive reviews. Someone here with experience could tell you more.

Good Luck!

Nima, a few things:

1. You started like 4 different threads about carbon scrubbers and exhaust; just a friendly reminder to try to keep similar threads together instead of creating multiple ones; it not only will keep you in better standing of the forum rules but it makes it easier for us to respond conclusively to your questions without having to spread it out over several new threads. :stylez rasta smoke:

2. Based on your other threads you started, you need to get some things hashed out and finalized before going through with this. For starters; you really need to decide what you're growing in. Are you going to actually build a grow box? What dimensions. Are you going to do a PC case micro grow? The other side of this is your planted pot size; what are you planting this in? Remember; plants will grow based on the room they have to root in; so the bigger the pot, the bigger the plant.

3. To back up Mustard, all strains emit an odor. Different phenotypes can show their face even with the same strain; so one "not so stinky" strain might have a same strain sister that reeks like my great uncle Toby. You are taking a serious gamble by not taking preventative measures BEFORE you start growing. It's far easier to be proactive than reactive my friend.

4. You may not necessarily have to exhaust your tent outside; especially if your room temperatures are maintained. I vented a large 4 foot by 4 foot by 7 foot tent into my basement (air pulled through a 6" carbon scrubber) and there was virtually zero smell from the exhaust and an added bonus was the heat help warmed my non-insulated basement! If you are growing a smaller strain and using a scrubber and/or other odor prevention methods; there's a good chance this could still work out for you.

5. I'm an advocate of things like ONA gel, but used primarily in conjunction with carbon scrubbers. Hands down, a carbon scrubber is one of the best and most cost effective options you have for odor control and reduction. ONA is essential oils; which have their own ups and downs. ONA can work VERY well, or it may not do the job (this is based on how essential oils work, not how ONA is manufactured.)

6. How is your room set up? How many outside walls do you have? How many inside/shared walls do you have? Is this an apartment? If so, remember most interior apartment walls have a very low R-value (if there is any insulation at all, especially if it's an older building.) Where does your air intake come from? Is this shared ventilation with others in the building?

7. A friendly reminder; even if you live in a place where growing cannabis is legal, security should be number 1 on your mind. It doesn't sound like you are growing in a legal area based on your posts (and if you are my apologies for being presumptuous.) If that's the case; remember it's not just law enforcement that you need to be concerned about, but others in your area. Cannabis is still a high paying commodity to many and there are people that would love to rip off someone doing all the work and taking the risks and liabilities. This your ship and you are the captain; run a tight ship and you will have smooth sailing.

Here's the Odor guide that IDontSmoke referred to; it's a work in a progress but covers some more of the technical aspects of odor control reduction and methods available. Hopefully it will give you a little insight into your plants and what's available to you!

Don't be discouraged by any of this; I just don't want to see something happen because not enough attention to detail was paid. Good karma brother. :karma Cloud:
