Day 40 Update

With the growth spurt in full swing the plant experienced about 2-3 inches of growth per branch over the last 5 days. This week introduced Tiger Bloom into the nute mix @ 1/2 tsp per gallon. Watering is being increased to every 1.5 days for the next 5-10 days as she's too dry by the morning of day 2. Expecting moar branch growth and am looking for those bud sites to start filling up. She's still turning @ 1.4 rpm, and light penetration is really great right now. There are some lower bud sites still obstructed by primary fan leaves but the 12 primary branches are getting full light. Some of the secondary branches are looking like they will catch up in a few more days. The humidifier has been removed and rh is 35% @ 78f. I'm pretty pleased with her progress so far and am looking forward to seeing what happens with all these branches.

Day 45 Update

Current Temp/rh: 78f/35%
Main stem/plant height: 18" with LST
Distance from top of buds to light: 9.5"
Average vertical growth over last 5 days: 4"
Current watering schedule: 1 gallon every 1.5 days, nutes every other watering
Light Schedule: 24/0
Plant Rotation: Clockwise @ 1.4 rpm!

This Berry Ryder should be renamed the Monster Camel. She's currently getting water every 1.5 days and I thought with the growth slowing I'd switch back to 2 day watering starting today. But no, she was pretty dry this morning, so tipped in some 9.0 ph water with 6.1 runoff. It takes a lot of ph juice to get to the 9's... I'm not a fan of this at all and refuse to go into the 10's. It seems no mater what her runoff will be 5.5-6.0 with this Ocean Forrest. I haven't paid enough attention to this in the past. Nutes were upped a bit this week to 1tsp TB, 1 tsp GB, 1.5 BB, 1/2 Calmag, I have some lower leaves showing random cal/N/P deficiencies and kind of think she wants more food. Mollassis is out of the mix this week but will be back next week as the GB is phased out. Vertical growth has slowed but not stopped just yet with another 1/2 inch on the main stem over the last 2 days. I expect vertical growth to be complete over the next few days.

This is the point where the experimentation with the display turner comes into play I think. I can confirm that as she turns LED light is able to reach parts of the middle canopy that would otherwise stay shady until the plant is physically moved. In my mind it's better to move the plant to share those smaller rays and allow different light to penetrate as the taller branches move. So while the lower bud sites will still be shady, they will at least receive more light than if not moving. I think there is a real benefit to this as the turning device uses only 3w of power. I'm going to do a bit of LST today and also experiment with the angle of the LED light to try and really open up the lower stem areas.

The other thoery of the display turner is that I can get the plant closer to the LED than I could with it in a stationary position. We know that LED lights placed too close to buds can cause stress, specifically 'foxtailing' and cola bleaching (snow peaks? Mont Blancing?). Again the idea here is to provide a consistant mix of spectrum to the top colas before they start to bleach. So I figure If the cola is turning then she'll get full spectrum most of the time instead of a single bulb focused on a very small portion of bud. This also sllows the lower part of the plant to stay within the generally accepted 18-24" desired lightpath, thereby increasing lower branch output as well I hope.

Not much to say, growth pretty much stopped and she's in full flower mode now. Water intake is calming down as well. Will let the pics do the talking.
