PH Calculation Guide by GoAuto6

Rough Calculation Guide:

Here's some good info on ph.....
If your runoff pH is higher than your starting pH, use this equation to determine your soil pH:*
Soil pH = Runoff pH + Difference

If your runoff pH is lower than your starting pH, us this equation:
Soil pH = Runoff pH - Difference.

For example, say your the starting pH of your solution before it goes in is 6.5 and the pH of your runoff is 7.0. The difference is +0.5, so using the above equation:
Soil pH = 7.0 + 0.5*
Soil pH = 7.5

If your starting pH is 6.5 and your runoff is 6.0, your difference is -0.5 and using the above equation:
Soil pH = 6.0 - 0.5
Soil pH = 5.5
Based on the above, Brother, your soil pH is way high! 6.2 in, 7.4 out would give you a soil pH of 8.6.
Lemme bring in someone with better knowlege of additives to see if there's a fix for this. You may need to transplant into a much less alkaline soil, Brother.
Gimme a sec! :peace:

God m8 this sounds fucked up! Im realy confused now:O I still think its becouse of first weeks watering with 8.0 PH water. Now that i got Ph- its all good. It sais soil is 5.5-6.5 PH. I will do another runoff test tomorrow just to be certain!

If you could bring in anyone it would realy be awesome! (Y) Cheers m8

I've got the word out, Shax, just to see if it would be worth fighting a soil like that.
Personally, I'd bite the bullet and re-pot. At 15 days you'll lose some time, but won't be fighting the pH for the rest of the grow.
Is this a bag soil you're using? 8.6 is crazy.
This is what I use:

Good, solid soil with great drainage, and buffers pH really well.
And if you're seeing signs of mold in other pots, on top of this, I'd go to plan B. :Sharing One:
:karma Cloud: for your gals, Shax!

Thank you m8 for the advice I will take it in count! I will do some research, upload some pics from the soil bag, and retest PH. I realy hope it isnt the soil. If it is as you said i'll have to replant them:/ Stay tuned for updates tomorrow! Cheers

Also, Brother, if you're using a pH pen, be sure to re-calibrate it before taking your readings.
:peace:

I'll be peeking in too, Shax. Looking forward to seeing a fresh set of numbers to make sure we know what we're dealing with before taking drastic action. I see either a transplant or a major flush in your future if the numbers are really that bad. Both will set the plant back temporarily, but like RR said, you don't want to be fighting this condition for another couple of months. Stay cool, brother. We'll get things ironed out one way or another. :Sharing One:

Redneck Gosh, i need to buy a calibrator for the pen. Althrought i think the readings are quiet accurate. I just wet the pen first before using with water. Maybe it could also be that. :S Gonna get a calibrator asap just to make sure.

Get some calibration solution and find a small container to keep it in. I use a pill bottle. When I check my pen I dip it into the bottle. When i'm done with the pen, I wash the probe with a little distilled water. I also use distilled water in the cap of my pen to keep it wet while stored. PH of distilled water should be 7.0 or close to it. same as "storage solution". this way, you don't contaminate you calibration solution and can reuse it several times. A good pen should stay calibrated fairly closely. I've had my new pen 2 weeks and have not had to recalibrate it.

Looking good Shax. They shouldn't be getting their first nutes until day 14 though.

Your HPS will be fine after doing 2 or more grows i don't think you need to buy a new light and 400 watts is plenty, unless you plan to use all 3 metres of the space ?

All the best,

steely.

Hey pop, storing a pH probe in distilled or RO water will eventually destroy the glass membrane. I don't know of any sensor company that recommends it. pH probe storage solution is a KCl mixture which is far different from distilled water, not just a gimmick to make you buy something else. If you don't have storage solution, storing it in calibration solution is preferable to anything else.
