Grow Mediums Oh No..BayLee420 Going Hydro

We'll see.
It's the irrigation time of the Top Feed that's got me puzzled. Going to start at once a day for 15 minutes (shortest time on the timer) then increase as time goes on. More than likely; from what I've read three to four times a day during lamp on.
Gotta love new life so it begins you want to get yourself a digital timer there only cheap on amazon and you can set the feeds by 1 minute intervals [emoji106]

Picking up a digital timer tomorrow at local Hydro shop. Can be set to one minute intervals. Less than $20.00 (with tax included).

The 1st Bean to pop has died. I thought she might. Her seedling stem was very thin and wispy. The heating mat may of been the cause too. The temps climbed into the 90'sF. I think I may of fried her. [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] is doing fine. I put her in the Hydro and she's a go.

Put another Amnesia Haze bean to germ and see how this goes. It will be a week behind [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG], but that's the way it goes.

I weighed the moist rock wool and she weighed 26 grams. The dry rock wool weighed only 3 grams. When the cube gets to 13-15 grams I'll give it some water to bring the weight up to 26 grams. 3/26=0.115 x 100= 11.5%. (11.5%-100% =88.5% in water weight)

It's been an interesting day. Last night I got up to check the two Amnesia Haze Autos. The 1st pop died. Could be a number of things, but the heating mat was too hot. Live and learn.
This is the first time I've used rockwool as a germinating medium. The 2nd pop has a nice thick stem; it's not spindly as [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] was. I never liked early pops. Four to five days is average. but the ones that pop in three days have been issues. The bean needs the time to set it's tap root before she pops. Five days or longer can be better than an early pop. That's just my opinion.

[HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] is in the DIY DWC Top/Feed setup. The reservoir water level just touches the bottom of the 5" net pots. The rockwool is resting on a good inch of clay balls; then surrounded with the clay balls. There are 6 X 2" air stones bubbling up a good amount of oxygenated bubbles. The Top Feed is set for 2 minutes of drip (good flow) three times during light ON. The 5" net pots are not submerged more than a 1/4". Hoping the oxygenated bubbles wick the rockwool and the 6 minutes a day of Top Feed will make my new girl happy.
250W MH, 18/6, 24" from the top of the hydro setup now just to see how they react.

It's official.....Hydro is on.

Sounds like you're set. They'll be slower to take off but once the roots hit the water is when the real growth will start.

Couldn't wait any longer. Didn't want to loose [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG]. May of been a bit early to set her in, it's Hydro not soil.

It's not like she's flooded with water and with the six 2" air stones. There is plenty of oxygen.

Nope you should be good. I put mine in the net pot about a day or two after they pop. Keep the cube moist but not soaked and you should be good. Once the roots hit the water you won't need to top water anymore...at least I wouldn't think so.

The nice thing about the Top Feeder is that it drains down the roots giving added nutrients. I could use the Top Feed pretty much all the way through. The research is that it's not really needed or diminishes it's usefulness as the roots grow into the oxygenated water. The DIY is really two Hydro systems; DWC and Top Feed. Can't see where it will hurt if the Top Feed is left on and off at intervals through the light ON during most of the grow. Plus I really shouldn't worry about the reservoir water level as much since the Top Feed will also give the girls the nutrients and oxygen needed.

Didn't think of that. Can't hurt at all to get a little more food to roots.
Looks like someone did their homework [emoji851]
