Grow Mediums Oh No..BayLee420 Going Hydro

Are you using hydroguard or anything to help with that
Hydroguard is now in the nutrient solution; along with Pro-Tekt. I redid the top of the reservoir 5" net pot's hole. Nice snug fit and when looking from the bottom with a bright light shining; there is no light leaks as before. The drip system is out; including the pump. Even with the Hydroguard running through the system. It's drip tubing is a breeding ground for all kinds of nastiest problems. When I get better at this DWC thing. I'll try it, but now it's out and running just DWC. The Floralicious Plus stained the roots brown in just one day along with the entire system. Freaked me out. Within 24 hours the roots are coming back to a better whitish color; many tiny root hairs with the addition of the Hydroguard. I do believe that the slime hurt the root growth on [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG]. All her new roots just wilted away. She's coming back after the Hydroguard "fix".

As the Hydro Shop owner said....Keep your nutrient solution CLEAR.

Yeah adding colored nutrients is a major freakout factor the first time
When I get better at this DWC. I will experiment with amendments, but right now I want to see white roots. Not tan and brown ones.

The tan slime was everywhere. Like a bathtub "ring" in a Motel 6 Crack House. The air tubes. The drip pump motor's intake. The inside of the drip lines had to be as well. Every nook and cranny was a light brown slime. No off smell though. Slime did a job on #3's roots. That was all it took to get the Hydroguard and Pro-Tekt. Checked for light leaks and sure enough the 5" holes were oversized and the edge's were just resting enough w/o falling into the tank. There was plenty of light peaking through a thin semi circle on both of the holes. More than enough light leak to create an issue.

Running 580 PPM; pH'd to 5.8-6.2
The pH will jump in 24 hours to 7.0. Must be the rockwool or clay balls buffering the solution?
[HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] is 20 days old and doing fine. Still have the very light Ca def. spots. I think that it will clear up as the roots come back to normal. [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG] was hurt by the slime. Lost all her 1st hanging roots, but she's coming around better today with new root growth.

Why is my pH and PPM rising.
PPM is at 440 (lowered it from last res change due to biofilm cleaning)
I pH'd the solution to 5.5. This morning the PPM is 502 and my pH jumped to 7.1.
No sign of any slime or off color of nutrient solution.
Water is 1/2 inch from bottom of net pots. Roots are clearing up from the brown slime and new growth is coming along.

Tank temp is 60F to 68F.

I think it's because she's drinking more water but eating less nutrients wait till you hit bloom your ph goes down i was ph'ing to 6.2 24 hours later it was 5.2 just ph'd it back up

They probably aren't back to full feeding after being stressed. You might want to dilute your solution some until you see them feeding again.

Have you considered going sterile? It would be a lot easier and no problems with slime or bio films and less pH issues.

What would going sterile entail?
