Hello everyone. This is my first post nd my fist attempt at growing. Currently I am only doing research to identify any up front and ongoing costs.

I have a 6'x8' room in my basement I can use but am undecided of I should use a 4x4x7 grow tent or just add drywall and myar to the inside of the room.

I m looking for suggetions on what type of seed (auto, fem, etc.) nd strain. ANy suggestions for a first time grow will be appriciated.

Be Safe, Grow Plentyfull, Hve Fun.....

Biff.

Hi Biff!

I'm guessing you can browse as well as look for responses from some others with more experience having used both types of areas.

In the past, I had made use of an area, and just painted some partitions white, temperatures were a bit more mild than where I am now and was overall very easy to slide partitions around, plenty of room to get in and out... but again, very little was needed to control temperature and humidity in the larger/more open area.

As far as the tent, I can see some definite pluses to being able to keep clean, bugs out etc... but it's hard for me to get around and not trip on things :D, but the bright/reflective material seems to refract light pretty well and I'm able to keep the indoor temp and humidity higher than the adjacent areas, which is a plus.

Best of luck, and everyone here so far seems really helpful.

Welcome to AFN! I myself have exceeded my thirtieth, thirtieth birthday............lol! I did the do it yourself growroom and now, I can't wait to get a 4x4 growtent. Gives you more option as to placement, easy and quick removal, etc. Autos are most often new grower friendly. Check out Mephisto Genetics. Mitch has a page here and his genetics are stellar!

I'd just add drywall and mylar ... a lot more solid than any tent ... how much are you planning on growing ... I like to suggest that new growers find a grower here that uses similar equipment and a space similar to what they have and copy that person ... Welcome aboard.

Welcome pal,

enjoy your AFN time.

Greetings Biff, from one older novice grower to another!

I have two tents, a couple of home made grow cabs, and a decent size flowering room for photo sensitive plants.

Since you have the room, I would most certainly build a room. Much easier to move around in, and maintain plants IMHO.

I would also start out with some autos to start with, much faster results to be seen for your first grow. For me it is a toss up, whether to use Fems or regular seeds to start with. The only reason that it may be a good idea to use regular seeds for your first grow, is to help learn to identify the males from the females. If that does not matter to you, certainly go for some fem seeds.

The strain/s are all dependent on what you are looking for in Cannabis. Whether it be for daytime recreational use, night time relaxing, or pain relief.

Hope this helps some.

Peace, and happy growing.

Welcome to AFN, Biff. I would utilize the room idea too. I would also start off with a few plants and see where it goes. Dont want to throw down 10 plants and have problems 1/2 way through. I would start a perpetual thing first and work from there.
As far as strains go, I would hit attitude seed bank for auto discriptions and pictures, then if you see something you like, you can get one or a mixed beg of seeds. :peace:

p.s. really do your homework and it will save you money in the long run! 2 areas to not skimp on, are lights and carbon filter! Dont buy the cheap stuff off E-bay or amazon. If you are going with MH/HPS, rule of thumb is 50w per square foot, minimum. Led is a different story, but with led you dont have the heat issues like you do with HID lighting.

welcome Biff. I too am a seasoned (old fart) novice grower.i like the room idea myself. unfortuantly my wife take's up the extra space for shoe storage lol , so I'm banished to the cold garage and my diy cabinet's.
