Hey ya'll been ages since ive been on, but finally got back home :)
just wanna ask a quick question, and that is i know here in AUS we are at the half way mark for growing photos outdoors but if i was to put an auto out side this time of year will she grow? im in land NSW, just wondering is all, i'd like to put one out side for a experiment see how it compares to a friends indoor grow, any help, tips and pointers will be very helpful thanks guys :peace:

:styles rasta: Welcome back, mate! I'm not familiar with the climate conditions, or the total hours of sunlight you've got where you're at... Clue us in, as details help tailor the advise you get,... Generally speaking, from my experience growing auto's outside, you have plenty of time...8-9 weeks is what you'll need, with a strain that's not real sativa dominant (which may take longer), if time is that tight... what makes a profound quality difference is the number of hours of light they get; I saw a major jump in quality and modest size jump when I gave my plants some supplemental light at night, beyond the 13+ of sun at peak season... keep in mind, that 13 hours isn't full strength prime-time sun either (unlike indoor lights, which are full strength all the time). My second round grew just okay without the supp' lighting, but they were small and the buds lacked density...quality was fine, but the buds were airy... 3rd round, using a humble fluorescent 2 bulb shop light made for bigger plants and far better buds,.... total hours of dark was about 4-5... What I did was place them outside in the morning, left them the all day and into part of the night, then brought them inside and put them under the light until next morn'.... If you can swing this, it'll be worth it big time, otherwise, look for strains that are known to do well outside... auto's are quite variable with this! In my first two grows, only one strain stood out of a crown of many: B. Lee auto, (Kannabia)- very good! Look into the Dragons, which I'm sure you've heard of here, their birthplace! Another excellent option is Sweet Seeds and their F1 Fast strains, which are something in between full auto's and photos; just a small change in light hours, which will occur naturally outside at the end of the season, will be enough to trigger blooming; long story short, I had a Green Poison that was planted beginning of Aug., and I harvested at the end of October! 3' tall, 1 oz of outstanding bud.... I ran other Sweets with that supp' lighting, and they all turned out excellent, if not very big... HighRise has speedy plants too... check out RCMC here, in the seed section; many small in-house breeders sell their seeds through them(Dragons included), with lots of documentation of grows here often,... A little homework and, if you can make it happen, extra light, and you'll kick some butt! :ama:

hey Waira! thanks for the welcome :) as for the conditions around here its pretty hot this time of year, we go from low 20's at night up to high 30's - low 40's during the day, id have no clue on how many hours we'd be getting around here, can i just google that or something? but at the moment im 97.6% sure we get around 14 hours? thats just my rough count from sun rise to sun set, i can always bring them in for that extra bit of light you suggested as im setting up a indoor grow room, so that isnt a problem at all, ill be sure to have a look through that RCMC ;) wooah thats a pretty good job man i'd very happy with an oz harvest :d5: i wouldnt mind having a test run out side just for shits and gigs, but if its to much work ill just run an inside grow till next year when season comes round and actually just grow an photo and keep the autos inside... ahhhh decisions! :P

that helped captain cheers mate! :) yeah so i was right actually holy farrk :P 14 hours a day ATM then drops down to 12 hours at the end of jan - start of feb, so either way 14hours currently so i'd have to bring them inside at night for another 4 hours correct?

My pleasure bro'! :tiphat: Hit the link in my signature area (Sweet Crm.'s) and go to the end; I have harvest and dried buds pics posted, if you want to see what the strains look like.... Sounds like it's peak summer there! If it's that hot, maybe shield the plant some from the hottest part of the day, especially seedlings! Ease those babies into it,... Sweet has several of their best strains in F1 fast versions; the GP I mentioned is very very potent! ...and the flavor/aromatics are fantastic! Honestly, their strains are so good, you basically can't go wrong :smoke: The F1's would be perfect for indoors too... LMAO!! -deciding on strains will give you the fits! Great thing about here, is how well documented some strains are, so you know what to expect, and any tips/tricks....*** I know a very good Aussie grower here, VapedAs,...maybe check him out and chat some with him, for "local' insight and seed ordering, etc.,... Cheers mate!

No problem dude, sorry for the short message last night, I was running on fumes at that point trying my hardest to harvest a plant before I disappeared to bed :)

Pleasure to meet you dude :)

Other than that link, I'm not gonna be much good for outdoor advice I'm afraid, though your in good company with Waira and VapedAs, great guys

Anyways, I just wanted to apologise for my rudeness, catch up with you soon dude ;)

You can grow all year round with the sun NSW gets. You'll need to start your plants indoors until the plant is at least 1-2 weeks old then move them outside (under CFLs). If you're growing in pots there is probably a high probability that you will need to water on a daily basis because of the heat we get. Pest control is a must when growing outdoors in NSW, neem oil is highly recommended and there is a bunch of guides on how to use it properly.

I've compared indoor vs outdoor (LED/CFL vs the real sun) and I've found that plants always grow better outdoors, thicker stems, bigger root system, faster growth etc.. but outdoor does require a bit more maintenance.

Cheers.

thanks waira, awesome grow to man checked it out, impressive :tiphat:
haha stress less Captain no rudeness here mate :) that link is some very powerful witch craft.. i do like!
Cheers Chad, all year round you say? very nice! im gonna put a bag seed outside today then see how that goes, i placed my orders this morning 5x Pyramid Auto Super Hash seeds wanted a indica dom strain to put me to sleep of a night :stight: and i got 1x Advanced Auto Somango seed, to put me at $50 mark so i get the 3x Royal Queen NL seeds for free :) currently making a grow cupboard i'll be posting in the DIY section, trying to make it with out buying anything.. well besides the lights of course, 100% budget build with things laying around the house woo!
thanks for the help guys :) champions!:smokebuds:

Well, I can tell you my experience. Last year I planted nine seedlings at the very end of June, which is our summer solstice. At the end of October, from nine plants which were dwarfs and only about 18" (about 36cm) and I harvested 1/4 pound. So, I say, give it a try if seed costs are not prohibitive. I wish I could find someone on my continent who sells seed. Know anyone in the Americas?

peace :peace:
