Outdoor Organic Grow - Pots or Into the Ground?

I am waiting for 3 DP Blue AutoMazar seeds to sprout. I have found a spot on my own land where I can safely grow them without fear of detection. If everything appears to go well, at the end of July, I will sprout 3 more seeds, and add them to the party. It will be an organic grow and I will be using bio bizz (grow, bloom and max) nutes.

Temperatures between now and October will range from 21C to 35C July and August being the hottest months. I am approximately 800 metres from the sea, wind can be an issue but the chosen site is relatively sheltered by a wall on one side. Rainfall if any during this period is generally in the form of thunderstorms, large amounts of rain for 5-10 mins or so. The soil is good as that area was previously used as the vegetable patch.

I will need the flexibility to leave the plants unattended for 4 to 12 days at a time 3 or so times during the grow.

My questions are as follows:

1. Should I plant them in pots or in the ground.

2. If in pots what sizes are best. Please give pot measurements in height and circumference. I am unable to understand the gallons/litre system.

3. If in the ground apart from adding all purpose peat compost, perlite and expanded clay balls to the hole is there any other thing that could improve my yield?

4. From reading stuff on here, the feeding regime for plants in the ground seems to be far less than for plants in pots. However, because this is not a guerrilla grow in the true sense (ie I don't have issues re regular access) what would be the ideal feeding regime to grow some kick-ass (sterling) weed?

5. How big should the plants be at transplant time if going into the ground?

i would be grateful for answers from experienced autofem growers and growers in crazy hot climates.

Have U seen the Tier Method ..
Maybe transplant the bucket in the ground as U would Have a Strong Base ..

But organic and In outdoor soil unless the soil has been worked for years its hard to be organic ..
If u feed it entirly organic i dont see why it wouldnt be Organic ,.
But being in Naked soil who knows whats there..

U can Keep.it totally organic in a Big enuff contanier ..

I hope u get what u looking for ..any other help please ask
7-10 gallon will make a Tree.any more u looking at trees ..

It really depends on your soil. I do an outdoor grow every year here in Colorado and the soil in the mountains here is, very acidic and lacking much useful life (at least in my particular area). In the past I've used LARGE (and I mean LARGE pots lol) with much success but even then the roots leave the pot and go into the ground. I do plan on raised beds with good soil to begin with and doing compost etc. but that's another day down the road....

This is my first outdoor grow. I decided to go with poly growbags. Will make for quick cleanup at the end of the grow. You can get different types of grow bags and sizes up to 100 gallons! A bath tub is about 30 gallons, an average kitchen trash can is 7 gallons. I'm using 5 gallon bags, I figured they will give me good size plants that will not outgrow my greenhouse lol! If you have the room, and want BIG plants, then use BIG pots! Get some 20 or 30 gallon grow bags, you can grow monsters in those!

I plant in the small size root pouch (1gal) ... when it's time for them to go out I plant them, pot and all, in the ground ... I usually cut a couple top to bottom slits when I plant it but that's not needed if you want to reuse the pot ... if you want more control over the soil then use a bigger root pouch ... just plant it in the ground once the plants are big enough to withstand weather, bugs and critters ...

I already bit the bullet and put the buddha Purple Kush directly into the soil. I will probably pop the AutoMazars straight into the soil as well. Soil here is pretty fertile and I will enrich the hole a bit and see where it all goes. I am able to feed and inspect regularly so ground should be fine. This grow is going to be a learning curve.

Similar situation and choices for me, Banana. Here in the states, I'm growing stealth at the edge of an agricultural field which meets a wooded area. Faces the southeast so I'll get 6-7 hours of unfiltered morning sun. I'll only be able to tend to the plants every other week. This led me to decide to amend the soil with grow medium and plant in the soil as I believe it will allow the plants to better survive any hot/dry spells between waterings.


My plants are now putting on their third nodes so I'm thinking I'll do the transplant in a week or so. My biggest concern is not detection but critters; specifically rabbits or possibly the stray deer. I'm thinking about getting some repellant to spray on the plants until they are large enough to survive any nibbling.

Hello there Powderfinger,

i fortunately have have no deer or rabbit issues, so have no good/meaningful advice I can give. But you might be interested to check out the posts of a new member called Reap. He is in South Africa somewhere and his outdoor plants are the healthiest outdoor monsters I ever saw. He is also pretty chilled and humble and answered my 2 rather amateur type questions pretty comprehensively.

I have seen seen a few YouTube videos showing people sinking homemade chicken wire cages round their grow in the us cos of critters that you mentioned. Be careful what you spray on your plants remember its going to be ingested eventually.
