Lighting Pal's first Photosensitive grow, The Ultimate.

Both seeds now in root riots, will wait for their little heads to pop up before I take any pics. Both had their tap root emerging, one slightly ahead of the other.
I've been doing some thinking about where to keep the water level for this run and there are arguments for both sides..so I've decided to run the water 1" below the bottom of the netpot in one bucket and 1" above the bottom of the netpot in the other - hopefully this will help me decide for future runs which method is more viable.
Also considering just throwing in a HS1 along with the MS004 & MS006 to flower them instead of a 600hps on it's own.
:peace:

Just for my notes.. I soaked the root riots in advance with 2ml Plant Magic Root Stim and 1ml Canna Start in 1l of water. My tap water here is 0.5EC standard and with those nutes added it only went to 0.6EC so a very light feed whilst they develop. I reckon the speedy girl will show her head today/tomorrow latest, no signs of life from the other one yet but I'm confident they will both germinate and sprout as I've never had any trouble at this stage, so fingers crossed I'll have two lovely ladies to show you soon.

I've scrapped the idea of using the hps now too, gonna be having a little switch around but this grow will definitely feature at least one HS1 :D

:peace:

Just been to check on the girls, the faster one looks content and has just shed her casing, can see some nice green cotyledons about to open up. Number two however is a different story, I was wondering why she was so far behind even though her root growth is pretty much identical to number 1 - her head was trapped under the root riot :( it had tried to grow up and out but got stuck so went back down..I've done what I can and tried to help her along by digging her head out and removing her seed casing but the cotyledons look extremely yellow..chances are I'll have to germ another seed but I'll see if she recovers at all first. :peace:

Hey guys, got a little update.

Well after yesterday's drama I'm happy to announce that both seeds have broken ground and are looking healthy. It's still very early days but the slower of the 2 seems to have caught up now that I set her free from the pesky root riot :D I've not put them into the bucket yet, instead I have them sat in a small tray of hydroton clay pebbles (same as in net pot) - this was to wait and see if the slow girl would pull through, will most likely transfer them to bucket this afternoon.

Here are a couple pics of the grow room:

I've got them under 2x MS006's right now with one unit only running two modules so 8 in total. I've been giving them 5ml a day to keep them moist/happy, this consists of 2ml Plant Magic Root Stim and 2ml Canna Start, PH 5.8 EC 0.7 total.

And a couple pics of the girls:

The girl on the left was the one that got stuck, she seems no worse for it..you can see around her stem where I had to cut her out :D
That's all for now folks, will update when I transfer them to the buckets. :peace:

Looking forward to the HS1 action. Enjoy the ride!

Hey Pal
Your set up loos sweet dude.
Im subbed for this adventure if you dont mind.
Can you show me your diffuser?

Hey Grim, if you go on this link: http://www.coastal-koi.com/shopping.php?class_id=256
I use the Angel Aqua 150mm x 50mm cylinder diffuser, you just have to scroll down a bit to see it, this is my first run with this size as recommended by Seymour, but I've used the large flat round diffuser and a longer thinner cylindrical diffuser both by angel aqua and they all run great with similar performance.
Thanks for stopping by bro :peace:

Well it's update time!

I transferred both girls to their buckets on Monday afternoon so this is their third day in there. I've got the water levels both set to an inch above the net pot just to try it out. My expectation of this method is that the roots will take maybe a couple days longer to appear from the net pot, but when they do they should be stronger. I took some pictures earlier some with flash some without, and in the pics with flash turned on they look ever so slightly hungry. Up until today there was just plain water bubbling away but this morning after inspecting the pictures I decided to make a sort of half way res still with a relatively low EC to just wet their appetites. Into 15L of water went: 30ml Plant magic Root Stim (now my buckets smell like eggs -.-) and Canna Start up to 0.9EC total. So really I've only added 0.4EC as my tap water is 0.5EC. PH 5.8.
They got their first dark period yesterday, I'm running them on 18/6. Lights are out right now but I had a little look a few minutes before the dark and there were no bad signs from them in relation to the feeding so hopefully we're all good, will inspect again this evening. I'm doing my best to keep res temps between 16-18 degrees with frozen water bottles - so much effort in summer!
Can't think of anything else to update so here are the girls, pics taken this morning before feeding.

Please forgive the picture quality, I seem to have misplaced the card reader for the DSLR. :peace:

p.s could someone move this thread over to the GN section? Decided not to run the HPS now so it's stricly GN/LED again. Thanks in advance!
