Persistent pythium (hydroponics)

Botinicare HydroGuard! Hurry!

I wish :frowny: I'm looking for something similar to cure, then run enzymes to keep it healthy.

She said in the first post that she can't get Hydroguard, so I recommended Great White instead (Similar but different). Voodoo Juice is also an alternative.
These are all more preventative than reactive though - they basically load the system with beneficials so that the Pythium cannot get a foothold.

Do you use Both Hydroguard and SM-90 at the same time?

I wonder if any can be used together or if it's overkill? Plus I don't want to throw money at it that I don't need to, although I want the problem sorted out ASAP.
I can't even get Xtreme Gardening Mykos WS here and it looks like good shit.
I can get the Canna products for enzyme, AN products and a scant few others. I'm thinking General Hydroponics Florashield might be similar? Can anyone attest to that?
And also, does tap water kill these products??

Where were you able to find great white? Voodoo juice has been the only bennies I've been able to find in alberta. It might work for you, pretty expensive though at $65 for 500ml in store.

I haven't checked local, Amazon has an oz for $33.20 but I thought I could find it in store to compare prices. Maybe not, yet again :frowny:
I wonder why we can't get anything decent here in Canada product wise?

@Boradan no i only use sm90 hydroguard seems pretty hard to source in uk/ireland.
Im no chemist i just know it works for me. My res was running way too hot recently - as high as 38 celcius.

I know thats a massive no for many reasons- root problems lower oxygen etc. But my res is clean and roots are white. A sterile res is fine with me.

I did 1 dwc grow and 1 recirculated drip grow with out sm90 and had issues.

So i dont know what all is in there listed or not but i know it works for me... but if its off the shelfs i will have to use something else.. maybe great white

I have not tried this but there are DWC growers out there using it.

An amazon comment said yes mix a rate of 1:20 water then add that at 1 ml per gallon.

Good luck!

Tapwater shouldn't affect them, especially if you leave it out for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to be dissipated.
I aerate my water for 24 hours before adding anything to it.
The site for Great White shows other stuff including Orca and Jellyfish, which it states can be used together. Not sure of the benefits though of using them all.

No idea about florashield - their site simply states what it does, not what it contains.
As Jer said, Voodoo juice is hella expensive - especially for Hydro with the amount per gallon you need.

Great White and a Castille soap do the job perfectly for me to keep out root rot, so I have no intention to use any more products.

Yeah. SM-90 is for creating a sterile environment which prevents root rot and includes a surfactant.
The other products (Hydroguard, Great White, Voodoo Juice etc) go the opposite way by introducing beneficial Fungus and Bacteria en-masse to prevent the Pythium getting a foothold.
Same end result, but different ways to go about it.

Clorox bleach works well.
I started using it after I learned that the Current Culture UC Roots I was using (along with the other CC nutes) is dilute bleach.
2 drops per gallon per day is what I use.
And the price is right.

Never tried it myself but maybe you can get this stuff in Canada?
Seen quite a few people using this when they cant get hydroguard.

Thanks, I'll check the store when I get there, I'm in a rural location so I have to wander an hour to the stores, so tomorrow or next day I'll grab something.

If I can't find anything, I'll order the Great White off Amazon, or order it anyway and make a soap of some kind if I can't get anything similar to SM-90.

I've heard that, if this next treatment fails I'll try that; I'd like to build up beneficials if I can but I gotta knock this down first. Trying H2O2, enzyme cleaner tonight then a different enzyme first. Go from there. Like the spider mites it's probably a multi pronged attack to get this.

That stuff looks good too, I'll see if there is anything down in Calgary but I think that area's been gone over but who knows.

Thanks again everyone, lots of info to see if I can get the products, or something similar and I'll definitely post my results so other people can benefit!!
