Hi all
I'm fairly new to dwc but have read a bit about it.
The problem I have is when I set the ph to 5.8 in the water butt .then pump it into the reservoir that feeds the pots that hold my plants.when I check the ph in pots it's almost immediately has risen to between 7.2 / 7.6 is this normal or not should I adjust the ph straight away back to 5.8 hows this happening?
Thanks

Come on experienced growers help a newbie.

See any slime in you res or buckets? what fert you using? fill your res PH it and then wait 2 hrs and ph it again... do you have an air stone in your res?

Welcome to THE AutoFlower Network. The home of everything auto and all vibes good.

Please check out this pH chart

As you can see the optimal pH for your DWC application is 5.8 - also take a look at all of the red in the pH spectrum you're in.

A few questions you'd have to answer for us to help a bit more -
What nutrient line are you using?
What kind of water are you using ? (RO, Well, City tap)
How are you monitoring pH? (Meter or tester strips)
What are you using to control your pH? (organic? chemical?)

I invite you to start a grow journal here on this forum so we can follow along on your grow and offer advice as needed. It's good to have so many extra sets of eyes on your grow, especially as a new grower because folks can see what's going on as it happens.
In the mean time, if you want head over to the Introductions forum and start up a thread introducing yourself, it's a good place to note your experience and knowledge and let everyone know you're here for the long haul!

Look forward to hearing back from you, thanks for joining us!

what are you using as a medium? how often do you change the res water?

Sorry for missing off so much detail
I'm using the full dutch pro nutrients including dutch pro ph - grow+bloom
I use tap water that has stood in a water butt for at least 24hrs
Using a blue lab ph + ec meter
A haileau chiller that keeps water at 18 degree
3×600w bulbs in silver star air cooled reflectors
2 koi pond air pumps feeding 3 air stones in each of the 6×18 ltr pots that form a homemade recirculating dwc.
I also add bud link.
Thankyou for your replies so far.

Alright so your nutrient line up and pH management tools are set. Is your meter calibrated, have you calibrated it lately to make sure? Blue Lab is a reliable brand and while I haven't heard too much about Dutch they appear to be a reliable brand. You have your reservoir temps under control as well, it seems like you've got everything accounted for.
Bud Link is just a silica additive, this should have minor, if any impact on pH.

When mixing your nutrient solution, you should let it sit for 30 minutes to allow it to mix well. Then check the pH and adjust it if needed. It takes a little time for the pH to become adjusted once you add fertilizer or pH up or down to it. It doesn't happen instantly. Give it some time. Once the pH stabilizes, feed it to your plants.

My theory with your pH is because it has water softeners in it from the tap, therefor it's pH won't stabilize as quickly because the shit has to evaporate or conflicts with the pH.

If you continue to have these huge pH flucuations I recommend picking up some distilled water from the grocery store and trying to run your res with it once to see if you still have extreme pH fluctuation. If you don't, you know it's your water source - if you do, you know it's your nutrient line.

How far are the lights from the plant tops? HPS is recommended @ 8-24 inches is the standard for 600W HID from plant tops. This is a wide range but autos are a bit more sensitive as well, so I'd lean more towards the 14" + range.
Check this chart out as well as it will help you to manage your lights.

Is there any kind of brown slime at the top of your water level...? any residue? are your roots perfectly white?

When I drain the pots back to water butt there is a bit residue on the air lines and the roots aren't perfectly white they are more of a off white to yellowish..my lights are at least 12 inch from tops.I got great results on my last grow in same system but without the chiller+bud link.I thought these things could only improve the grow.
And again thanks so much for replies it's nice to know there's people out there who'll help if they can
Cheers.
