The weather forcast for the next week is not good. Highs in the low 50's and lows in the 30's. I am not worried about freezing, just when the sun does not shine for that long, my heat sink stops working. The huge stone wall behind the plot has what is called "thermal enerita" meaning it is so massive that it does not heat or cool fast. This moderates the extrems of temp.,but evens out over time. With average temps in the 40's, given a week and no sun to store heat from, the temps go down. As muddy said if the soil temps get to low, growth stops. However, once this system passes and the sun returns the heat retention will start up again. I need one more month to finish seed production and feel I will get it. Hopefully! I have left one of the old photos, a pure sativa, out still. I think I will let the frost kill her when ever that might be. I am impressed with the growers from UDG who grow outside so far north. They mainly grow photos with a early finishing date. For next year I am going to see if here in the lower lats., if they will get much bigger than even what they get up north. Should hopefully.
Same day, the photo bed. They are doing great with countless seeds. Oddly enough the best of the autos are now bigger. Maybe the pollenation slowed the bud formation but this is a seed run. We are near the end of 9 weeks and the autos are still going strong. I always thought 90 days for the photos, being the end of nov.
As you can see in pic 1 the autos are yellowing the lower sun leaves here at the end of week 9 just like they do for other people, but the first time for me. Pic 2 , do not know why it is sideways, has shorter limbs than the photos, but the overall mass is now bigger. So group against group the autos are far behind, but best against best they have pulled ahead. Interesting. They are just a little ahead of the photos in flowering, not much, but should be nearing the end of their life cycle. None have turned yellow ,much less died for me outside, now the low number of daylight hours is causing this I guess. I am still waiting for auto pollen to begin flowing. It is the last week of oct., they probly do not have time now to set seeds. Another lose to photos, although I did bred the big autos to the ghost train photo. As I see it, only the big 2 deserve to pass along their genectic info anyway.
I have been wondering how all of a sudden the best autos pulled ahead in mass. In pic 1 you can see that she is open to the sun more because her sisters failed to help her form a canopy, like the photos did. So her shorter limbs receive full sun each, while the photos are shading each other part of each day. Still. I croped them and the side limbs fromed well and reached the canopy, but seem to only have good buds at the end and sparce below. Also they received much more nutes, so the autos did more with less. After a time. Oh shit, I just remembered, I gave them full strenth flowering fert. on day 57. The weather was going to be great and I took a chance! Should I hit her again when this bad weather passes? But I fertilized the photos too at that time.Autos have a strange life cycle.
