Those meanwells you have would run 4 x citizen cobs at 50w each mate. Can also be dimmed.


Citizens are 36 volt. Driver is 1.4 amp. So 36 x 1.4 = approx 50 watts to each cob.

Thanks again for the help. I plan on keeping my drivers and lights I'm using now, just adding to them. So I can just pick up another Mean well driver for 4x Citizens no problem.

Is there a certain model of Citizens I should get or do they only have one? Like how Cree has all of their different models.

Yeah when I was building my lights the first time around I was also looking at the Chinese parts. I couldn't wait for shipping so I just went with the more expensive, name brand, stuff. Glad I went this route though.

Over the years I've learned, with most things, that you will end up saving money in the long run buying quality first. You'll end up spending a good chunk of change going through bad products when you'll end up breaking down and buying the good quality stuff anyways.

Some lessons are more expensive then others haha.

The citizen 1212s do the job very well indeed and are cheap as chips mate. Extensively proven on here. Gen 6 are the current ones.

1216s are the new version and a bit more punch. Don't think they are much more expensive. Would probably try those if I was building a light now.

What about Luminus CXM 22's? Anyone have any experience with these? Seems promising. Can't decide between these and Citizens. These also seem like the best option for a Mars upgrade. I've pretty much made up my mind to let my Chinese Cobs and Drivers decorate my tool box. I'll use my artic CPU heatsink and fans for a proper build.

Personally I would avoid a mars conversion. One of the best things about cobs is the full tent coverage due to multiple light sources. Makes a huge amount of difference. 3 feet of light penetration around your entire tent. Just my 2 pence though.

I built a setup with 4 citizen clu 048 1212s (3500k), and a meanwell driver. hlg 185H 1400A 36V 200W. There are some good deals to be had, just pay attention...have heard of some unscrupulous sales on ebay
