If you are anything like me, you have a limited amount of space to grow your cannabis and want to make the most with what you have. If you have problems with humidity in your tent or grow room and want to reduce it without having to take up the space of actually putting a dehumidifier in their with your plants you are in luck. I have come up with a nice way of doing it while still keeping all the square footage for plants.
A few things you will need:
1) Dehumidifier (if you don't already have one)
2) Honeywell H4C 1166 (bought mine on Amazon for $42)
3) A piece of SOW cable 14/3 about 12' long
4) A 110VAC plug(or 230VAC if you live in Europe)
5) A few wire nuts or butt splices depending on what you prefer to use
6) Electrical tape
7) A decent multi-meter
8) A few ring connectors for your wires
9) A few foot of AC ducting and duct tape.
To start with, here is a picture of what mine looks like completed.
A picture of the parts needed:
A picture of the humidistat:
So, first thing you will need to do is strip one end of your SOW cable:
Next is push the cable through your plug and attach connectors:
Next, cut your cable that feeds your dehumidifier:
And attach a ring connector to your ground wire(green) on that cable:
Now you will attach the wires to the humidistat.
This is easier than it looks:
1) Take both ground wires(green) from each cable and attach to the rear screw on the humidistat:
2) Attach the hot wire(black) from your SOW cable and wire nut it to the red wire on the humidistat.
3) Attach the neutral wire(white) on your SOW cable to the neutral wire(white) on your dehumidifier cable.
4) Attach the hot(black) wire on your dehumidifier cable to the black wire on your humidistat.
5) Check all the connections and wrap in electrical tape
You will want to tape your ductwork on to your dehumidifier to allow you to drop the duct into your tent or room. I didn't take a picture of this because everyone's dehumidifier is going to be different. Regardless, you can see in the first picture the way I have mine duct-ed in.
At this point, you set the humidity on your humidistat to what you want, plug the SOW cable in the wall and drop the humidistat into your tent. When the humidity reaches your setpoint it will turn on your dehumidifier and when the humidity drops below the setpoint it will turn the dehumidifier back off.
