I've read many posts regarding the effectiveness of cutting off dead or dying leaves. Some people claim if over 50% of the leaf is damaged then it is best to remove it so energy isn't wasted. Others claim letting nature run its course is easily more effective, and cutting off the dead leaves will result in unnecessary shock.

I am about a week into flowering, and because this is my first grow I obviously made some mistakes early on. Currently my girl, Trans Siberian, is about 3.3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. I have several leaves that were damaged pretty severely. Is it best to do nothing, or should I remove them?

Howdy Rasta.

I have been cutting off necrotic part of the leaves when the are young. Generally, it stops the decay. Like you stated a leaf is a fuel source. A half of leaf is better than no leaf. If they are over 60% damaged, I will remove the leaf--anytime. Removing these leaves inhibits predators of all sorts, fungi etc.
However, with time you will be able to identify leaves that are doing their job, despite, cosmetic issues.

Yellow leaf tips are very common. And some leaves end up just being cosmetically challenged due to a temporary PH swing or lock out. When paper dry and/or necrotic = cut or remove, otherwise, wait and watch. Though, they often, just fall off the plant when of no use.
