So I am currently using cfl's in my grow box and just switched to 12/12 for my photo plants. My current set of lights are 8 23 watt (100 equivalent) 4 3000k and 4 5000k. Was wondering about using 2 timers and have say half the lights come on to start then like 15 min later have the other half turn on and the same before light out. Or could even set it to have 2 at a time come on every 15 min at start and vise-versa at lights out. It would replicate sun rise/set more than just full on full off. Has anybody heard of any study's or know if anyone has tried this and if there where any benefits????

Why are you going 12/12 for autos? You could try and do what your saying but I really don't think it's worth the trouble and don't believe it would have any effect on your plants but go ahead and try it if you want and see what happens.

Folks use 730 ish far red to signal sunset an pfr.
But LEDs are about only way to get only 730mn.

I'd recommend you use incandescent or hallogen stead of clf if trying it.
I have friends who use them @ lights out for sunset to set circadian rhythms.
Not sure if it would help autos, but it don't hurt them.

And I'd keep the halogen / incandescent on for the whole daylight cycle.
They are rich in 660 an 730 for Emerson effect.
Flouro is always lacking in those spectrum.
This would bennifit autos alot IMHO.
