I always loved Johnny's music and one of my regrets is that I never got to see him live. I did see him on the street in Manhattan once while waiting in line to get into a West, Bruce and Lange concert at Radio City Music Hall. Everyone started yelling Hey Johnny. He just waved and kept walking.
The Texas guitar players like Johnny and Billy Gibbons always had their own style, going back to people like Lightnin' Hopkins. His early LPs were produced by the great Willie Dixon and his bass and drummer later became Stevie Ray Vaughns backup group, Double Trouble. His second LP, Second Winter, is still one of my favorites. A three sided LP. Side 4 was blank.
I believe Edgar is still alive. I did get to see him once in a small blues club in NJ. Great show that included his hits, Free Ride and Frankenstein.
