Lighting Rushed in with light purchase. Help needed.

Hi folks,

Completely new to this and was just getting my first grow underway. It feels like i did hours and hours of research on everything but obviously not enough.

I have a 1mx1mx2m tent, 2 plants using autopots. I bought 2 viparspectra 300w lights and now found out that theyre terrible (too much blue, inflated par readings etc etc).

What do i do? I cant afford to just keep them and risk a terrible grow knowing something is wrong otherwise it defeats the whole purpose of me doing it but what are my options taking price in to consideration. The lights cost me 140 off amazon so should i;
A) bastardize them and retro fit cobs to them (im fairly capable at hands on stuff)
B) try to return them and build cob from scratch
C) as above but buy the mars equivent
D)anything i havent thought of.

Considerations are price mainly. Also as an addon a friend bought the 900w viparspectra (apparently idiots attract idiots lol) he wants to grow 6 plants, does he have a shot?

Any help or information is greatly appreciated, thanks

Welcome to AFN. AFN ROCKS . Go to Live Intros and introduce yourself and post the question there or live stoners. I've grown 1 grow using a Mars II 900 and my current grow using Growstar and Higrow LEDs. I'm sure someone here has grown with those Vipars and would be glad to help :smoking:

Hi dabber, thanks for the speedy reply, yeah sorry about the no introduction im normally a hardcore lurker but this was a panic post . Will that be the best forum for me to post in for this question then? And should i just copy and paste? Ohh my man dont be in panic..People grow with much worst leds than yours..As Far as I know they will deliver, wont be nothing to brag about but it will grow you some weed..I think 1 300w viparspectra is enough for one virl..So you good.. I dont know where are u from?USA or EU? You can always pimp your vipar spectra with cobs , or even quantum boards.. have a look at autocobs, gn, tasty led, rapid led,timberled,amare... there is so much good stuff to choose from,or contact kingbrite on alibaba..

Your good to go with what you have pal, cut your teeth with the equipment you've got , your pals 900 is actually 450 draw and would suit a 4x2 footprint I reckon,happy growing ,, your going to second guess everything on a first grow the hardest thing is too do is nothing# , nice a simple

You should still be able to pull good weight off your plants with 2 300w vipar. I use 600w Mars hydro and I get awsome results! The lights you have are plenty for you to get started. Think about ths light you want long term in your tent and use the dual 300w until you can afford it. Then use the 300w as,l side lighting or a veg tent light for a perpetual grow

I highly doubt he'll get six plant under one 900w vipar, unless they gonna be super small.. that will just not have the footprint for 6 plants... I use a 600w Meizhi Reflector Led, I think they rock...It's like 287-290 at wall w/ both veg/bloom switches...I'm getting awesome results with it. as @lunarman said, them will work, after a while when ya have extra money consider taking a look at that it will match your tent size like perfectly..

Thanks for the excellent advice everyone its definitely appreciated and put my mind at ease a bit. I think the plan were settling on is to save during this grow, learn as much as possible and to then either mod the vipars as suggested or to diy a cob. Both seeds have sprouted now so fingers crossed

I did the same thing as you, bought the viparspectra 450w for my 80x80 tent and pushed 4 plants in there. It did get a bit crowded and the light wasn't covering my area 100% but I got to the finish line with a decent result. I think vipar is alright for veg, but it does lack in flower because of to little red.

I'm on a budget so gonna wait with upgrading to cobs. Adding a mars 300w for my next flower periode tho. Should be a upgrade compared to last one. Then in time I might make a conversion with one of the lights later on. Good luck

I've got 2 v300's and a sunnine cree 600 watt in the middle before the cree I was happy with my 4-6 oz a month running perpetual garden now I got a 3x3 and a 4x2 and pull a half pound easy every month last month I pulled a pound thats not great when you factor my wattage is 756 watts Sept thats my light fans all of them and humidifier and music system playing Bach to my shelias oh and my 3x3 is powered by diy lights that I found out work out great for veg learnt from the ghetto grow show
