Doubtful but worth a try.

Yes they can germinate, but will probably require some special care.
I read about a guy sprouting and growing seeds from the 70's, so it can be done.

However it depends on a lot of factors about storage, but using google you can access to many attempts and tips about doing it.
Here's the first search result.

Hopefully you will succeed and have a journal here;)

Cheers

If they have been kept dry, its possible they'll germinate. The sucess ratio may be low 20-3-% but I'll be willing to bet they will. I've seen garden seeds 20 years old sprout.

nice1 will consider running these or givin em away soon

here's some proof from the breeder TH Seeds:

[h=3]Product Information[/h] This beautiful variety was 'gifted' to T.H.Seeds from experienced Nor-Cal growers. A grape flavoured resin coated plant; this plant proves that purple doesn't necessarily stand for less quality. Originally grown from 23-year-old seeds, the Purps turned out to be the perfect match for our Afghani male.

Fun Fact :)
Not the one i was looking for because i have a recollection of a hemp seed from the ice age being germinated... but check this out

Oldest Viable Seed (from wikipedia)

The oldest carbon-14-dated seed that has grown into a viable plant was Silene stenophylla (narrow-leafed campion), an Arctic flower native to Siberia. Radiocarbon dating has confirmed an age of 31,800 ±300 years for the seeds. In 2007, more than 600,000 frozen mature and immature seeds were found buried in 70 squirrel hibernation burrows 38 metres (125 ft) below the permafrost near the banks of the Kolyma River. Believed to have been buried by Arctic ground squirrels, the mature seeds had been damaged to prevent germination in the burrow, however, three of the immature seeds contained viable embryos. Scientists extracted the embryos and successfully germinated plants in vitro which grew, flowered and created viable seeds of their own..

31,000 ... well i'll be damned! :)

Get your "germ" on folks

I'm afraid the seeds I got last February are going to dry up and die

I recently found some old seeds, somewhere between 5-10 years old. I tried germinating a couple but they must have had mildew spores on them because a blackish dark substance(mould) grew on the paper towel. Next I'm going to try an h2o2/water wash first with a small amount of sugar in the germination water to see if that works. I have fine genetics in my garden as it is but the labels on the seeds are Hawaian star, gods gift,L.A. Afghani. All decent strains from Cali despinceries so I wouldn't mind adding to my gene pool(plus I NEED some male pollen)
A while back I read about redhaired white mummies found in china with perfectly preserved cannabis....wouldn't that be cool if china would hand over a sample with seeds to germinate! Just a thought since I'm thinking about it,here's a link to a Toronto article about the mummies but you can also google it or what ever... http://m.thestar.com/#/article/busi...0yearold_marijuana_found_in_chinese_tomb.html

Some people (including myself) would love to add 18 year old genetics to their seed collection to preserve for the future. Hell, depending on the quality of the seed(s) itself; some would be willing to pay upwords of $300+ for the one bean if the seeds are indeed 18 years old.
