well well well... it wasn't supposed to look like that... the middle row is kinda supposed to be offset...
dude you saved me.... such a great reply,,, you are awesome.... i really do thank you for your time,,, now i can move on to a parts list...None of this has to do with me being a vendor. I am here right now as nothing more than a member trying to help.
I'm not a always right and my opinion is probably different than others at times. One thins I am certain of and something I can't express enough is how these cheap 1000 watt cobs go right up my ass. Sure it may work but what these companies have done is seen and stolen a good idea and tried to recreate it in the cheapest fashion to make a sale. That's it. If it was half as good as the rest I'd say try it but it's not even that good. These things and their bogus claims are sickening. The word cob doesn't mean it's good. Good cobs are good. Cheap cobs are cheap And they sell them based on price and people's inexperience.
Budget is always an issue but then again not everything needs to be done at once. If you only have a grand and want to light a warehouse you may be limited to a piece of the warehouse. Ya know? Another thing that's smart is to make sure what ever you buy is obviously something you can afford but what will work for you later down the road. Buying cheap now just means you need to spend more later.
For a 3x5 I would recommend 300 watts. You can also cover less if your budget doesn't fit that. You could do 2 bars of 3 cobs at 50 watts per bar. That should cover 2x5 well. Later build another bar and cover the whole space. Back to the vendor part. The autocobs are great lights and may fit the bill here as they can also be added slowely. No need for tools or countless hours researching. If not that's cool too. Just an option. The almost complete cobs I sell will eliminate a lot of the work too. Basically build a frame, buy a driver and wire it all up. As for the cobs, I love my citizens. The 1812 beats the 1212 and it's not much more than it price wise either. There are more expensive citizens too but I just feel these match price and performance the best. Opinion. As for the wattage I recommend that's based that on experience. Even my last plants were grown under that or less. The short stuff I just grew was under 2 cobs and grew 4.5' tall, and took up almost a full 3x3 space. It should yield close to a 1/2lb. That's good enough for most. The best part is I still have the lights to do it again and again. Upfront cost vs long term cost. The AutoCob uses little energy, minimal heat and a lot of light.
Hope it helps!![]()
I'm always here to help bro. I still think 6 cobs, 2 bars of 3 is enough to rock the tent. 2- Hlg-185-1050 and 6 citizen 1812's is what I would do. Then again there are countless options and easily adjustable depending on budget.dude you saved me.... such a great reply,,, you are awesome.... i really do thank you for your time,,, now i can move on to a parts list...
i thank you for the enlightenment that you have placed with me,,, lollollol ikr gpw smeeepw,,, i dnt expect to get these numbers, or be limited by these numbers, its just averaging.... i see most cob guys getting at least 1 gpw, i know its not the cobs, its everything.... i was just using examples i guess... i grow under 600 watt hps, (photos) and 130 watt old mars, and 180 watt old mars (autos)... i juust moved up to 5 2 gallon buckets, but it was always 5 liter buckets (how ever many would fit) kinda perpetually,,, and usually get 70-90 give or take a few g's... i am a super noob 2yrs old in the game.... i still don't know if i wanna keep doing hempy, coco dtw, or dwc... i have done all 3 off these styles, i kinda wanna do organics and compost.... cant make up my bipolar manic mind.... don't even know if i will utilize the 3x5 for long... i know I'm contemplating lighting it though and just wanted to know if i would be putting out enough par, lumens, watts, nanometers, or whatever else i will be putting out to achieve about 560 g's... ive just now got back on the forums, to see what else i can soak up to enhance my skill, or lack of skill... I'm not excited with my plant sizes... but when its all said and done, you and bigsmo let me know those yields are achievable with less than 750 watts... lollollol.... i said 750 watts of hps for 15 sq ft,here i go again with numbers, but i was always guided to at least 50 wpsq... in that 3x5 i was thinking two 400's or light mover on my 600... i just feel cob gives me a better layout, n for less watts... i thank you so much for your time... oh yeah time to do my parts list... oh yeah!!!I like all the GPW...Lol. Get it working first, then you can dial it in for maximum yield. You mentioned 750w HPS. I have no experience with the 1212s...Putting a pair together at 5500k....But I haven't seen them go yet. I used the word Citi which is short for Citizen. All my experience comes from 1818s @ 50v. I will tell you that 450 cob watts done right will BURY a 750w HPS, not including all the little things like heat management, and the ability to make modular systems out of em. The CLU048 Gen6 1818 90cri @ 3500k is a badass light for autoflower plants. Also for how much heatsinks cost, I wanna run the best light I can per sink. My buddy even got a freebie cob....Ordered 2 and got 3. They are actually very affordable when u think about it. I've spent close to $2k on top end HPS lights in the past. Killer bulbs, quality ballasts and Hydrofarm air cooled hoods, and cobs are light years ahead of going back that route. So yeah, I am operating Citizen lights, but no 1212s, and I love them. There are a few semi DIY "kits" available for not too much over cost, that come with everything you need including a frame. You can use that info to source parts. The B version MW drivers have the remote voltage potentiometers, which is often preferred. Also, don't forget about the holders and reflectors, as that is part of the cost. I know for a fact that 6 1818s on a HLG-320c-1050 wired series with passive 120mm pinfin sinks is dope. Literally....Lol. Not sure of your overall grower experience/skill level, but just don't be discouraged if your first or second cob grow isn't hitting 1.6 gpw....That's a really decent score, and everything has to be right to get those kind of yields. Also, the plants requirements are different under cobs compared to other HID lighting, so there is a bit of a learning curve for sure. Just make a REAL solid complete list of parts that all play nicely together before you bust out the credit card for a much less headache experience. Stick with the name brand cobs and drivers, use top end genetics, give em love and you will be smiling all the way to the bank. Cheerio.

Just grew this pig under 2 cobs. 2 of these would have filled the whole tent. View attachment 783034
