Self watering Tray2Grow experiment 👀

91 Grapes yield was 299 grams so that’s 22 ounces from the two plants. Very happy with that considering I used to get 24 ounces from 4 plants. Cutting off all the undergrowth and harvesting main colas only has worked great for reducing yield from 16 ounces down to 11. Autopots and coco for the win! Good luck and happy growing in the future to you all ✌️

It’s grow time! I have 4 beans soaking overnight going straight to pot tomorrow. I ended up with way too much bud last time (first world problems) so I’d like to grow them a tad smaller this time. Thinking of topping them we’ll see. Changing up light and feed though for sure.

I have 3gal fabric pots with 100% coco (Canna Coco)
Switching light schedule back to 18/6 from 24/0
Also switching back to my tap water from ro, using the General Hydroponics trio and some calmag. With ro and coco I was using 4-5 ml/g calmag but with my tap water that’s down to 2ml/g.
Instead of the aggressive, this time I’m going to use the medium feed schedule below.

Tomorrow I will drench the pots with a mix of 2ml/g of everything and let drain fully before I drop the beans. The day after sprout I’ll mix a batch of early growth for the reservoirs and pitter patter let’s get at her!

Day 8

On day 1 I set the pots on the trays and the reservoirs were filled with early veg feed which has an EC of 1.8 (my tap is .06 ec). The only hand watering was the initial soaking of pot before dropping the bean. My preferred ph is 5.8 but using my tap water the ph rises about .2 a day for 3 days before stabilizing. So I start with 5.6 and after a couple days I’ll add a little ph down to get it from 6ish to 5.8. This is just in the early stage because the feed sits in res a little longer. I only mix 4g at a time for each res so pretty soon I’ll be mixing every couple days and time won’t allow ph to rise much. Nothing to see yet, hopefully next weekly update they’re looking like little trees.

I got my new night owl seeds today, mulberry f3 and zamulet. I bought two 3-packs and received two 5-packs, 25 stickers, a pin for the tent, keychain, dark chocolate, rolling papers, and an ashtray. Killer smoke and max swag, can’t beat it!

Day 11

Updates will be mostly be weekly but since I’m here what the heck I can always use a progress pic to refer to. I’ve planted 2 grape crinkle in the past and one hermied and one was stunted. Other plants in the tent would do great except the GC. She’s the back right plant and looking like another problem child. Last seed from the 3pack so I’m not surprised, I was just keeping my fingers crossed the whole pack wasn’t bad. She may go or she may stay I don’t know yet, she’s no extra work so I’ll give it time for now. I don’t mind stunted I’ll just have to check for possible herm as she ages. The other 3 are doing good.

very nice grows. I’ve been using soil based 7 gal bags in my trays but seem to have to dry them back because they just stay way to wet and about day 45 ish start to encounter rapid camg or pk deficiency. I supplement some feeding but it just doesn’t seem to ever catch up. I see you’re using a coco based mix and adding in nutrients as you go along?

Yes I use canna brand100% coco no perlite and I mix a cocktail with the medium schedule above 4gal at a time and put it in the reservoirs. Then they eat what/when they want and I replenish. I just check ph in res every couple days early on because it takes longer to get through 4gal. I’ve never used soil so am ignorant to how it reacts to wicking compared to coco. I have only assumed if soil shouldn’t be top watered every day then it probably shouldn’t be bottom feeding 24hrs a day? I started with coco because on my first ever visit to the hydro store I told the guy that I preferred to not have to guess at anything if possible as far as what/when to water/feed and he put coco in the cart telling me how it’s inert and plant only eats what I feed (awesome!) then started me with GH nutes and a weekly feed schedule (even awesomer!) and I never looked back. Just started autopots and trays about 4 grows ago and it’s great. When I realized that growing in coco is growing hydroponically it all made sense lol now I think back to a few years of feeding my poor plants only once a day 🤣

This morning 2 plants showed signs of nute burn which I’ve never seen while so young. And man as I retraced my steps I realized that I totally brain farted my germ/first week process big time. No idea what the heck was distracting me but first mistake was instead of the initial pot soak with the 2ml/g baby formula I ended up using 3x that 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ second mistake was after sprout not resoaking until runoff finishes before setting on the trays which ensures even wicking for no dry spots. I discovered that just now when the coco caved while top watering 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Seriously have no idea how I fucked up twice but whatever we move on. I know flushing isn’t recommended in an autopot/tray because the salts build up near the top and you’d be pushing them down to the roots, but I figured they haven’t been exposed all that long and heavily flushed with the early veg amounts. I had spares so I replaced the mats and root control sheets. I’m going to hand water heavily a couple times a day for a couple days to keep flushing old shit out before back to the trays.
